Inspection due (NOT)

Featured Replies

When I turned on the ignition today the message came up "inspection due in 30 days."

I do about 5000 miles a year, the car was bought late October 2014, first service and oil change late October 2015, so nothing should be due yet.

Phoned up the dealer (who does my servicing) and was told to ignore it unless it bothers me (which it doesn't as the message goes off after a few seconds).

But they said they could reset it if I was down their way any time soon.

Anyone else had this?

Yep. Exactly the same. On the first service they reset the service indicator and the next time it popped was exactly 30 days before the car was due a service again!

It seems that sometimes they set it a bit skew-whiff at the factory. First dealer service resets it to what it should be.

In that case it should have come on around September 27th !! (Last service was Oct. 27 2015)

Sorry, completely misread your post as saying it'd not had a service yet. Doh.

That's weird - maybe they forgot to do it or something. Certainly mine was 'as it should be' thereafter.

Mine has just been in for its first service, having also done about 5000 miles. The service screen now says an oil service is due in 9300 mi /361 days, which is fine, but that an inspection is due in 14700 mi / 327 days, which seems like the same problem than ednmra has.

Same kind of issue here...grrrrr.

same here.

was actually at the dealer to avoid getting the inspection message because the  inspection time where wrong ,service time was correct. now they have messed it all up... got the inspection message yesterday and the service is set to be in 60 days or 17000 km.service shoud be 250 days or 250000km or something like that.

i have driven 12000 km and the car is one year so it is not up for service until 2017

annoying.....

Mine is due for a service around the 22nd Sept and a couple of weeks ago maxidot started to show a countdown of days to an oil change. When that got to zero every time you start up or turn ignition off you get a "bong" chime and the screen shows oil change now. Tried to stop that but didn't work. Gets on your nerves a bit.

We had the same problem with Mrs G's Fabia.

The service/Inspection Indicator was showing it needed a service 12 months after leaving the Factory. The Indicator wasn't reset on the PDI to the date for Delivery to the Coustomer

Don't forget, unless you order a Factory Order you car could be months old before you get it.

well, only thing  to do when the chime and messages starts to hit the nerves is to get the dealer to reset the dam thing. annoying when the drive to the dealer takes 7 hours back an forth.

Yes, the dealer did offer to reset it, but for the sake of a few bongs for a month or so I can't be bothered to drag over to Goring. I'll impress upon them to set it correctly for the following year.

Contact someone on this forum with VCDS who can reset the relevant values on the instrument module to realign your service schedule. This is usually fairly easy to do. Check the VCDS owners map on this site to find someone near you.

Mine was a factory order yet the current bong (inspection) is out of the interval with the other bong (service/oil change)

Something tells me people don't do their jobs correctly...

IT WORKED. I got rid of the dopey message !

Car purchased Sept 2014 - asked dealer to set to Fixed Servicing: so display reads Oil service due in 9400 or 365 days, Inspection service due in 18800 or 730 days - all of which seems correct.

6000 miles later...

First service in Aug 2015 - dealer resets service display - it then reads Oil Service due in 9400 or 365 days, Inspection service due in 18800 or 365 days ???

So why would the first inspection service not be due until 24800 miles reached according to this??

Another 6000 miles later (12000 in total)...

Second service in Aug 2016 - dealer resets service display - it now reads Oil Service due in 9400 or 365 days, Inspection Service due in 18700 or 1094 days???

So according to the dealer  I will need an oil service next year - correct. BUT if I carry on at only 6000 miles per year I won't need an Inspection service for another three years!!!

Conclusion, the service reminder looks good but in practice never seems to be set correctly and you're better off just sticking the dates on your calendar or monitoring your mileage yourself!

Agreed. My annual mileage is so low I just book service close to the yearly anniversary of the purchase date.

This is Comical.

Even the octavias computer is confused easily.

Just done it to mine and it worked but says reset for 31 days or 100 miles so looks like I'm going to have to manually reset it regularly!

Whatever I did, it got rid of all messages for the present.

I noticed when you do it, it keeps changes the options on the screen and I seemed to have to hit the "yes" button at just the right time.

Took me three or four goes.

It might be worth you having another go.

If you reset the SRI by pressing the button in the dash it will automatically revert to fixed service intervals, and that's most likely what they did because it's quicker and easier.

If you want variable service intervals, or if you want to customise your own service intervals then you must open and adapt the Instrument Controller with a suitable diagnostic tool such as VCDS.

This is why in an earlier post on this thread I suggested contact someone near you with VCDS do this can be done for you.

Well, for myself, only annual fixed service makes any sense. As mentioned, I only do 5K a year.
