Need a new Grille for my Mk III (Low flying Pidgeon!)

Featured Replies

Advice Please

Had a Pidgeon go into the front end whilst on the Motorway yesterday

It took out a central part of the black plastic grille

Fortunately there is no other bodywork or paintwork damage, even the silver grille surround is intact.

Now for the questions

How easy is it to fit a new grille

Other than from a main dealer any recommendations for

either independent source in the Dorset area or Online supplier

As I'm not very tech savy would prefer to have the grille fitted

Your advice appreciated

Thanks in anticipation

Jonathan

Ouch!! Been there and you're not going to like the answer.  The grille is ultrasonically welded into the bumper and isn't available separately, you'll need a whole new bumper i'm afraid.

Hi Neil

Thanks for the reply, That's a big Ouch !

Just got off the phone with Steve at Westover Skoda, strangely enough they had just repaired another

Mk III after a 'Bird Strike' to the Grille, Just over £800 !

I wanted to explore all the options before going down the Insurance route

The only advice I can offer is that it is spelt 'pigeon', you know, for the insurance form.

What speed were you doing? Pigeons are not that heavy, not like an emu :)

I have accidentally taken out a couple of parrots at the same time, which is a briefly very colourful, albeit sad experience. No damage to the car though

Is the OP refering to the Grille with the silver surround, that's not part of the bumper, it's part of the bonnet. I thought that grille could be replaced. You destroy the one coming out but you can fit a new one I believe

No, the grille on the mkII is part of the bonnet, on the mkIII is in the grille. I thought you had one???

So as you see the grille is in the bumper and as its welded in place Skoda done supply them as spares. I've been there myself, £900.

Friend of mine had his car repaired with used part like this...

Perfect opportunity to get a SuperSkoda grille!! Much less than £800!!

I read the other week a guy had his delivered to Skoda but they hadn't put a black pack on it. So dealers where replacing it. From what I read it's bumper off or smash the old one off. And simply refit new grill.

That's for the trim surrounding the grille, not the grille itself

E-bay - I got an immaculate, Skoda part numbered, unused, never been fixed into a bumper, clearly an OE part, grille for £70. Front bumper off, cut out old bumper, use hot glue gun (plastic glue) - job done. £730 saved. Now someone makes these grilles - why doesn't Skoda let them onto the market?

Yip pretty much would I read. Can't find the thread thoug. As from what I have read the black back grill comes not only with the black surround. But also a higher gloss grill. That said from cars I've looked at the grills all look the same.
