So a couple of weeks ago my mk1 fabia vrs cut out and wouldn't start up till the AA came and sprayed some easy start into it, since then it would cut out whilst driving or idle and had it diagnosed as a faulty fuel pump which I replaced and also done a full service, it seemed OK for a couple of weeks with the odd occasion in which it would take a little while to crank before starting , today it has cut out again and isn't starting again bit at a loss as to what it is now any ideas guys thanks

Any fault codes?

When cranking does the rev counter move?

Fuel pump relay.

Thinking that way. Don't know on a fabia, but on my Ibiza, if you listen, you can hear the fuel pump prime if you turn the key to the second click.

Well you wouldn't believe as soon as the AA guy came this time it cranked a bit and started, the Rev counter does move and it doesn't have any fault codes , he seemed to think fuel pump maybe be bad as it was used part or just some air or crap got pulled through its all a bit worrying

I'd change the relay before the fuel pump. All breakdown companies normally do these days is point at a random bit of the car (normally an expensive one) and blame that, so don't take anything they say as gospel. I have one tell me I definitely needed a new starter when I asked if he thought it was the solenoid wire that was broken (guess which it was?), and another one tell me a chronic driveshaft noise was my speedo cable. I asked him to show me where the speedo cable is, but "it's hard to see on these".... yeah, because it's electronic!

How about rather than changing the relay when it won't start see if you have a live at the pump?

It's due to go into the garage tomorrow anyway for front wishbone bushes if it going to cut out I hope it's then so as the poster said the computer can check the relay and fuel pump while the issue is present its just frustrating it's happened again
