Skoda Superb DSG 190 vs BMW 520d

Featured Replies

If you look at your car just a thing to get you from point A to point B at minimal running costs/fuel costs, Superb is defo a way to go. But, if you want luxury BMW will not let you down. I bought fully packed Superb 2 years ago and after 2 years of adding noise insulation, fixing various rattles, suspension noises, etc... I've given up. I'm very "picky" about cars and I want them to run quiet, issues free and Superb was not that for me. I was probably unlucky owner but heck it happens. So I went to test drive (over weekend) BMW 520d and 530d (2017 model) and I got to say BMW is huge step up in quality. You hear zero noise from suspension, general noise insulation is amazing (engine/road noise is barely there), seats are more comfortable, steering wheel is very light in normal driving mode, suspension deals very great with bumps (best is to get adjustable/electronically managed struts or even air suspension). My Superb was manual so I can not compare the gearbox, but BMW uses torque converter which allows certain things that DSG does not (like Super slow parking/hill climb) which I just loved. The 8 speed auto is also fast and unnoticeable and also cheap to run compared to DSG where you need to replace oil every 60K km (however BMW says that transmission oil is forever, I'd still replace oil every 90k km). The software in BMW is also faster as the processing power is just better. But for the price difference that's just normal. It should be. Value based, Superb is better buy in any view you look at it. But if you WANT luxury and can't settle for less, BMW is the way to go.

I bought Volvo V90 D5 instead of BMW, but I still stand by my thoughts. Beemer is good choice.
