Ferry Travel - Ferries_Live_Site

Is there a web site which gives ferry movements in real-time and "Roadwatch" type info.

After watching the recent chaos at Dover on TV, I was thinking (I know that's one of the deadly sins in Tory Britain) that may be useful in the case of trouble with any one service and might, with a bit of flexibility in ticketing  and the Port authorties/ferry operators pulling their fingers ouy, allow those travellers whose travel plans could be potentially stymied to guarentee travel via a reserve port/provider who may have surplus capacity near the time of travel.

not sure this is exactly what you want but it does show all the ferry routes http://www.aferry.co.uk/

marinetraffic.com shows every boat everywhere. Just search Dover or Calais for example and you can view the ships in real time (almost) scary how many ships the passenger ferrys have to cross in the channel!

Dont know of any web site that does real time ferry depart/arrive info.or load information.

But during times of road delays, port problems and the like, the ferry operator i use (p&o) out of dover will accept the original booking although your late but only if there are severe problems getting to the port.

During the latest dover problems, they operated the get here and we will put you on the next available crossing system, they also changed their timetable for more frequent crossings with less freight vehicles and more cars.

Otherwise buy a flexible tick if you think you might miss your booked ferry departure, its peace of mind.Useful if you have a puncture or the runs on journey to port.

The ferry firms use twitter very well during times of delays with frequent updates and the above info is usually mentioned by them on twitter so you have information if your stuck in a long traffic jam.Someone in the queue will always have a mobile that works.

current p&o twitter feed.   https://twitter.com/POferriesupdate?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Eauthor

Other ferry route i use where there are just 1 or 2 crossings a day, well then i get to the port area a day early and stay in a travelodge or similar again peace of mind.  The dover routes are now very busy so on the day tickets are not always available.

I use p&o as they have more frequent sailings out of dover and if problems happen they sort them out as soon as possible, there are other operators.

Good luck.

 I meant like this:-

http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/

Or the London tubes & buses or British Airways live arrivals info.

Even output from the Coastguard vessel traffic radar would do !

Postscript

Once you are stuck in a jam or slow moving flow its too late.
