My first Skoda Fabia

Hi I've just bought a 2005 1.4 16v Skoda fabia saloon and I want advise/ answers to the following :

1. The car has 60,000miles on the clock and has the infamous taper noise . What oil should I use ? It currently has 5w30 magnec in it

2. This car is a basic model so has no rear speakers. Does anyone know the size of the rear side speakers and if/ where they led and terminated the wires to the back.

3. The car is brilliant but its a bit plasticey inside , was wondering how much of the interior of skoda s and VW's is interchangeable , or if I can transfer parts from the better quality vrs .

Thanks .

1. Oil will not make any difference, it needs new lifters if you want it to be quiet from cold.

2. The rear speakers are fitted either side of the parcel shelf, if yours has none then you can get them from another car.

3. Yes, the trim is interchangeable between models but it's all plastic I'm afraid. Leather gearknobs and steering wheels exist as well as seats of course.

Thanks.

I was thinking of installing some good aftermarket speakers in the rear so I was wondering the size either side of the parcel shelf.

Yeah I figured I would have to replace tappets . At the moment it can be covered up when the stereo is on . Was just wondering if the oil type could help quieting it.

I've noticed the interior is fine except the hand brake leaver and interior door handles are flimsy plastic and was wondering if I could at least the brake leaver of a better vrs or even a vw one .

Ok.

I've checked the parcel shelf and it looks like the saloon model has a metal frame with pre cut speaker holes. So all I need to do is cut out the pice of shelf around the metal template and fit the relevant speakers .

Thanks

Have a look through the oil filler hole (the top bit directly beneath the cap unscrews off the cam carrier like a bayonet light bulb does), see how dark and mucky things look in there. A few short-interval oil changes may help to clean things up and reduce the noise if it's a bit 'black-deathy' in there.  As far as I know I'm on original everything engine-wise at 125k miles (BBY-code in Polo) and it really isn't loud, so on mileage alone you ought to be fine.

That looks really good but looks expensive to me ????.

I just want a simple rear set up. What are the rear speaker sizes of the ones either side of the parcel shelf . I think they are either 4x6 or 10cm .

The oil looks clean for now . But I might change the oil and oil filter again .

Thanks. That's what I'm looking for.

Do you know if they put wiring to the back and just tied it off or will I need to be putting wiring through to the back .
