Tyre size For 18" BBS CH wheels on a lowered VRS??

Featured Replies

Hi,

Im collecting my new VRS at the start of the week and am intending on fitting my 18" BBS CH's from my previous Mark 4 Golf to it aswell as lowering the car on Eibachs.

The only thing is my golf could take the larger profile 225/40r18 tyres but I definitely know these will not fit the VRS's archs. Can anyone offer me advice as to what would be the best tyre size or any experience anyone has had with 18s and lowered VRS's?

My wheels are 18x8 BBS CH's

Cheers,

Michael

Depending on the offset, you may need to modify the inner arch.

Not sure if the JBS Fabia had 18x8 or 18x8.5, but they had to do some mods to get the wheels to fit.

Not sure of the tyre size though, sorry.

215/35/18 is the tyre size required.

The offset is way off on the BBS CH for the fabia, they only just fit in the arches on the golf. I think you'll find they protude the arches a bit.

Look sweet though lol

shame they will not help the handling.

they will go on ... you can get the 19" CH on the mk4 / octy

CH iirc are 18x8 which will require archs rolling

They may look good BUT:

IMHO....... 18" are too big. You will have all sorts of problems with them. Speedo not reading correctly will be one, ride quality another.

17" are just right for the car with slightly lowered springs. Skoda should be fitting these to the standard car.

So im guessing what your trying to say is-

That they have been fitted to the fabia before???

If so Please explain or post a link if possible?? Or what did you mean exactly?

I think he's saying that someone tried it and it didn't work.... t'was a no-goer!!

:)

I'm saying people have already fitted 18s, and the general outlook is they're way too big, even for looks, and performance drops. Not only that, because of the pretty large difference in size between standard and 18", you raise the car by quite alot, even with lowering springs...the wheel arches are not really designed to properly accomodate 18s, you will not really be able to lower them so much as you will have rubbing problems(since they stick out of the arches)...you really don't wanna take corners and rip your fenders off!

This is Shifty's car...he's got the 18" A8 wheels on...looks very nice, though I don't know how he handles it on corners...notice how they stick out of the arches...raised the car way too much IMO, though it does look alright...still a little huge...according to him, given the remap he has, his performance has not been so much as affected, though I'm sure with smaller 17s or even the standard 16s his car flies.

To really make use of 18s, you'll need to modify your arches, i.e., make 'em bigger and wider to be able to swallow the 18 x 8...and THEN drop the car...you'll be entering what they call 'boy racer' territory then... :D
