Infected with Italian Character

Featured Replies

I was delighted to find that the Superb has at least one of the same bugs as my 2001 Alfa 147 had; wash+wipe the front screen while stationary then immediately select reverse gear and the back wiper will activate :D

TBF I do think that 'bug' is more a 'feature'. ;-)

Only if it's raining or your front washers squirt too high and wet the rear screen!  It wasn't and mine don't, d'oh!

No... it is a feature but nothing to do with it raining or water on the rear screen.

If you have just used the front wipers or they are currently on and select reverse it assumes that it's raining and the rear screen may be wet so gives it a wipe so you can see while reversing.

It can be deactivated through VCDS.

What about Car -> Settings -> Mirrors and Wipers -> Automatic Rear Wiper -> Deactivate?

Ah yes. Of course. I forget they have enabled a lot of these changes through the stereo on the MK3.

Interestingly I just had to pop out for a shopping trip so thought I'd check. Windscreen wash-wipe activated and straight into reverse - no rear wipe!

No wiper options are disabled. The only difference to OP AFAIK is Combi v. Hatch.

Funnily enough it only works when it's raining + it may need 'setting' into auto at each start up.

That option is for the rear wiper to wipe the rear screen intermittently whilst driving in the rain. It's a useful feature as it solves having to manually operate the rear wipe everytime you want to check your rear view mirror.

It has no effect on rear wiping when reverse is selected. Depending on how wet the conditions are depends on whether I turn that feature on or off. If the road is wet but drying and the is little rear spray then the wiper ends up wiping a dry screen which will lead to premature wiper ware.

If it's hoying it down then it works a treat, tho there is no means of making it wipe more or less frequently so sometimes I still have to manually activate it.

Auto rear wipe depends on whether the wipers are set to auto or not and the if it has been raining earlier. There must be other parameters but as it's only a sometimes or not at all function, I'm happy it works when it does!

This ^^

I have disabled the feature as it does my head in the rear wiper activated when the fronts are on, more so when the rear is dry in light front rain destorying the life of the wiper and marking the glass
