They've nicked me sat nav

Featured Replies

The giveaway that the car has Columbus fitted is the shark fin roof aerial.

This is what they look for.

If the car has no factory nav it just has a normal aerial

Not the case on the MkII Superb. Some cars without sat nav have the shark fin roof aerial.

Car was supposed to be back today. Garage just rang to say it has to go back to main dealer to be all programmed up. So it'll be another week.

???

It takes about 5 minutes. Why will it be a weeks wait?  I did one the other day for a guy on here, and the complete job (removal of old unit, installation of new unit, coding) including coffee and idle banter took about an hour.

So far so good, statistically probaby won't happen again.

That depends, if they stole it at your home I reckon its more likely to be stolen again as they know exactly where they can get another one. There is a member on here that has had 2 stolen

Did your old unit have your address stored as your "Home Address"? That will mean the thieves know where your brand new sat nav will be parked up at night, once you have it fitted.

Or you can use something like this:

That will definitely effect the resale value, nobody wants a car with 4 horrible studs sticking out of it.

Buy a new piece of dash trim, remove the studs, back to standard. Except you might still have your sat nav.

Unless the studs go into something properly structural at the back this product looks like it will make it easier to remove the trim around the satnav rather than harder even though it does theoretically act as a visual deterrent...

Surely that's advertising the fact you have something to Nick even more and might entice the thieves to have a go??

Fair point, its still hideous to live with on a daily basis though.

Rusty.... The weeks wait is till they can get it booked in. They should have made that booking as soon as they got the car, IMHO.

29/30 ...yes my home address was listed as home. I won't make at mistake when I set the new one up. I'm hoping they aren't that devious.

The theft occurred about 8 miles away.

Last Tuesday they said the car would go it the main dealer today and be ready same day. I rang at lunch time and it hadn't gone in. They were taking it this afternoon. They said will be two or three days till it's ready.

That's just nucking futs. No reason for it not to be same day (same "half day" is all it should take). You don't deserve this hassle.

Is there a particular reason you're using this garage..? They just seem to be a low priority middle man between you and the dealer. I hope they are wangling you some impressive discount?

(Rant over. i was 50 this month so I'm practicing my grumpy old man routine. !)   :wall:

I was sent to that garage by the insurance company who a footing all but a ton of the no doubt massive bill.

They've given me a courtesy car which I've barely used as SWMBO has a little run about which she isn't using due to health issues.

Btw I went thru my grumpy old man phase a few years ago.

Now I'm in the "can't give a flying ****" era.

I'm looking forward to the second era.  I get why you are battling through (insurance company!). Fingers crossed for 2 to 3 days...

So - Direct Line used their approved repairer to do mine. Took about 3 weeks for them to complete (took them a while to source replacement unit). Wasn't too bothered as I got a like-for-like hire car during the process.

The bill in the end (which I asked the repairer for over the phone - the insurers never told me) was .... wait for it ... about £5700. That doesn't include the hire car. How they could justify that, I've no idea.

The bill was for: replacement passenger window, replacement window seal, replacement plastic trim on door, replacement head unit, replacement trim around head unit, latest official Skoda Sat Nav DVD (which, of course, isn't really the latest...) and re-upholstering the base of the passenger seat where the broken glass had scratched it.

My premium only went up by about £200, so (given that I'd already dealt with being pi**ed off that I would have to have an increase in premium through no fault of my own) I was fairly relieved, given the extortionate cost of the repair.

Another update.

Garage rang. They are just imaculating, it then it'll be on it's way back to me.

There is a problem though. Apparently the latest sat nav has been fitted. But the dealer hasn't inserted the sd card/ disc to update it. So this is being ordered and I will need to take the car back for the job to be done in due course.

Rang the main dealer yesterday to see what was happening. They said they'd check and ring back.

I expect the were busy as I haven't had a call.

Now that Mother Teresa has been sainted I think there may be some openings. I've have put you forward as the new candidate for Sainthood.

Thanks but I haven't got the complexion. I rang them this morning. Strangely the service manager has the same surname as me which is fairly unusual. He said if I took the car in this afternoon they would sort it all out.

See they rang you then!

No mate I rang them.

Anyway it's all sorted now. For my home address I've input a chip shop a couple of miles away. The display on the sat nav is a little different from the earlier one. better IMHO.
