do my seats have electrickery in them?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I want to remove the front passenger seat in my Octy to get at my probably water damaged CCM, but I thought I should check first whether I need to disconnect the battery.

I wouldn't have thought i'd need to as I've had a good look under the seat (fully forward and back) and I cannot see a single wire going into it...although that surprises me because the seatbelt warning light works for this seat.

my car is a 51 reg Ambiente estate, 1.9tdi

Many thanks in advance if anyone knows what to do next!

The CCM is not under the seat it is under the dash drivers side behind the trim that has the diagnostic port in it and above the relay housing.

Dunno, but if the side bolsters have a badge saying "airbag" on them then yes there's electrickery in them. Similarly if you have a seat belts warning bong that goes off when you don't fasten the driver's belt before switching on.

I've looked at the CCM under the dash and it's fine so it must be some of the wires under the (once sodden) pass. side carpet, I want to get a proper look at them

And yeah they don't say airbag on them so I'll go ahead and writhe em out, cheers

What issue are you having to think it's the wiring or CCM? It might be something else?

loads of things really: only one door turns the inside lights on and lights up the 'door open' light, boot lights don't work (connections back there are fine, has to be an earth somewhere as they work with fresh earths but don't turn off) The doors all turned on the inside lights when opened just after i'd bought it but literally straight away after I got it home they stopped working.

Some of the remote lock mechanisms are intermittent, especially the boot lock and the interior locking button. The puddle lights don't come on unless you have the door right in between open and closed, that is to say half closing the door latches.

All this plus it has had the water ingress problem, leading me to believe the electrics have got wet and damaged at some point.

All of which points at the central locking connectors in the door(s), not at something under the carpet.

what do they have to do with the boot lights though?

and do you mean the microswitches?

Start with an inspection of the main wiring loom connector that you will find inside the drivers door. This will mean taking off the door card and peeling back the foam sheet that sits behind it. Then unplug the big connector located near the window motor and look for corrosion on the pins. This is often a cause of problems when it comes to central locking problems on all doors.

thanks el Rapido, I have actually done that and it was bone dry and corrosion free! I did notice a few of the wires in the thick lump going through the rubber tube are a bit frayed, but were all still intact
