Skoda Felicia vr6 pickup conversion

Featured Replies

I have a 1999 1.9 skoda Felicia pick up and was wondering what subframe and shafts can i run with the engine as i always wanted to do a conversion , but cant see on any forums about sub frames and shafts im also new to briskoda thanks in advance .

There isn't anything that will just bolt in. The Felicia is unique in that way. For a conversion it's possible but custom.

I know it wont be an easy feat but doable was just looking some inside info tips and which parts which would benifet me , shafts sumbfrane etc

AwesomeGTi have done this once (I think "once was enough" even for them), and you can get more power with less weight from a 1.8T.

Ken O`Niel will the 1.8 drop straight in ???

No the 1.8T doesn't drop straight in. Check Teflon Tom's thread on his mammoth conversion.

Cant find his thread bud

The body of Felicia is not suitable for handling powerful engines like VR6 or 1.8T. Yeah, you can squeeze it in eventually but the car will be far from being safe and reliable to drive. You have to understand that when a car is designed, teams of engineers calculate for months how to reinforce the body, how to distribute the weight, what suspension, brakes, axles and steering could handle the power of the engine, how to distribute the weights, etc. Custom conversion is a science in itself.

I have three suggestions for you in this order:

  1. Study the body of the car the engine came from
  2. Learn how Felicia rally cars are modified
  3. Have a look at American muscle pickup trucks

Last, but not least, be prepared to pour big money in this project.

I can see where you are coming from but i have looked into it all The suspension is getting changed to suit the needs and power change so is the brakr system eg discs pads larger calipers , brake madter cyclinder and so on new fuel tank is being made and mounted differently to compensate the weight of the engine brakes and suspension also tyres and wheels are getting upgraded aswell ,just money and time can stop me , but that you for your concern as i do not wish to live in a bubble and be extra safe , ill take my chances live a little and try and enjoy my project ill keep uses updated

I didn't say "don't do it". In fact I gave you 3 suggestions for doing it the right way. Let me explain.

1) What better point to start is to compare the body, suspension, brakes, axles, and steering from the donor car with Felicia? The VW(?) the engine came from has all designed by engineers already. All you have to do is adapt them to your pickup.

2) If 1) is not to your liking, the next best idea is to inspire yourself from Felicia rally cars. They are capable of accommodating bigger engines, they have a reinforced body and most important they have good handling in tough conditions. Driving a tiny car like Felicia having a brutal engine can be scary...

3) My 3rd suggestion is perfect if you want the ultimate custom job. Americans and their trucks... yeah... they are mean, sturdy, fast, loud. Some are looking good too:) Anyways, American truck fans did all kind of weird  conversions.

Let me guess, you want a huge power engine disguised under the inconspicuous body shape of a Felicia pickup. Or do you want to add some bling to it too? Do you have a dream car photo to share that inspires you?

Seen the vr6 conversion at a show it's probably the worst conversion ever uses the golf subframe welded to felicia one and there's only about 5mm gap between engine and leg drivers side so be a pig to work on.. mounted to golf box custom mount built in leg passanger side it's running custom drive shafts... It'd orso for sale at 8k not the best engine conversion up front in a felicia the 1.4 16v afh bolts in nicely and goes really well...

Would probably work better in the back tho...
