Can ventilated leather seats be cleaned?

Featured Replies

I have just placed an order for a Superb estate L&K 190hp Business grey with black perforated leather seats.

What strikes me now when I look at some pictures (google) is that it seems as if also the rear seats are perforated even though, as I understand it, there are no fans in the rear seat.

It makes me a bit worried, having two kids, that the rear seats will not be as easy to clean as my current Octavia with standard (not perforated) leather seats.

Does anyone has any experience with the perforated (ventilated) seats with regards to keeping them clean? Can I for example take a damp paper and clean up a dropped icecream without having the seat interior (trough the ventilation holes) full of foulness?

Ok, withstanding an icecream drop might be to much to ask for, but for example a sticky candy or simply sand and snow that the kids can bring in to the car on their clothing. Will it easily be removed or will I forever have the sand inside my rear seats until they get full?

If that kind of 'threat' exists, I would put a cover over the seats. No there aren't and fans in the rear. Although I have a 3 1/2 year old, I have a protection mat under his seat and food/drink is restricted to controlled bottles and things we can hoover up!

Once winter arrives I'll put something over the leather seat base in the back.

The holes are small, but would allow sand etc through. The surface can be cleaned with lightly damp cloths. I use baby wipes for the X6 (cream leather!!) and that works a treat.

Be careful. I know modern car 'leather' is usually coated at factory, but baby wipes will generally damage leather finishes and leach out the oils and colour over time. If your leather is coated, just get something like Meguiar's leather & vinyl cleaner spray and use with a clean microfibre cloth. If it's proper leather (BMW offer both iirc) then Gliptone leather clean & conditioner would be better.

Get some Dr. Leather wipes. Great for giving the leather a clean and removing dirt. Amazing how much dirt comes off the steering wheel.
