EGR FAULT - Dealer Info

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Small while ago I had P2455 error code pop up. So changed the DPF pressure sensor 2 days later got the same code and P046C.

You can find more here on my original post

So no messing about down my local dealer who has confirmed EGR and cooling system need replacing.

This is the cost of work

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Diagnostic charge for fault confirmation £48 including vat

Carried out investigation into vehicle in limp mode, carried out diagnostic check and several faults within memory, 1 fault traced to the FAP sensor, tried a donor part and road tested, carried out diagnostic test again and faults cleared apart from one.  This meaning a new FAP sensor will be required and the fault left in the vehicle is relevant to a replacement of the exhaust gas recirculation valve and cooler.  Prices for work are as follows:

Parts required: egr valve and cooler and 2 gaskets and FAP sensor –

Parts total including vat = £451.48

Labour brake down:

Removal of dpf system to gain access to egr area = 3.3 hours @ £80+vat per hr

Remove and refit egr valve and cooler = 1.6 hours @ £80+ vat per hr

Coding and updated new components = 1hr @ £80+vat p/hr

Total labour cost including vat = £566.40

Total repair cost £1017.88 inclduing vat, parts and labour

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As you can see they stung me for the Diagnostic charge it takes along time to switch the laptop on and click the mouse :D :D

However I have been told we can lose that in the figures so thats fair!!!!

On the larger figure £1017.88  I have managed a 40% reduction 20% from the dealer and this is matched via Skoda them self. New total is £610.73

Only really got 1 question do we think this is fair? My car is 75 months Iam told they would give a better discount if it was under 60 months

Look forward to your feedback

Would it be of interest to anyone if I kept the old EGR kit?

Pretty common fault, sadly a costly one as its an expensive component and an arse to get to.

As for the diagnostic charge, it's not just a case of switching the laptop on. Reading a fault code is only a small part of fault finding. The next part is deciphering that fault code and diagnosing what the issue is. Then of course you have to stick by the diagnosis so I'd take the time checking you were right. Not the case everywhere but the last dealer I worked at could and would deduct up to £150 from your wage if you miss diagnosed a part and that didn't fix the fault.

I might be interested in having a look, drop me a PM if you'd be willing to post it to me at my cost.
