Front Differential Oil Level

Featured Replies

Hi

I serviced my Yeti 170 TDI 2.0 today.   The only thing I have left to do is to check the level of oil in the front differential.   I've tried torches, mirrors, touch and swearing but I can't find the fill plug.  I have the Rough Road Protection kit so it might be obscured by a bit of that (although I removed the under engine tray in order to check the gearbox oil and drain the sump).  Can anyone help?

I was using the photos at  http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?5692616-VW-Tiguan-2009-Changing-Haldex-Differential-Manual-Transmission-and-Engine-Fluids  as a guide but to no avail.

Thanks

Mick

The front differential is inside the gearbox.

The angle box (aka transfer box) is a pain in the ass to get to and it's not part of any service schedule to check the level. If it's dry, it's ok.

Thanks for that Techie.  I'm a bit confused though as I can find the drain plug for what I thought was the differential (but not the filler).  The drain plug is underneath the drive shaft flange at the gearbox end.

Yes. The filler on the angle box is on the front edge and you have to remove the driveshaft, heatshield and turbo support to get to it. Madness.
