Cracked plastic VRS sump dripping oil

Featured Replies

After the sump and full-oil-change I notice my oil temps have reduced by a good 5-10 degrees. The car used to reach >110deg after fully warming up but the max I see post-change is 104deg. I guess either fresh oil, or changing it to Castrol Edge FST 5W30 reduced the friction a little. Despite my initial reservations I am glad I replaced the old oil and filter with new.

edit: Whilst being unhappy about the use of plastic, I give VAG some credit for making the sump extremely easy to change. Still, a metal sump would probably have lasted for the life of the car....

  • Changed it myself without any issues. I took my time and it was all done within an hour. Below is a picture showing the split/crack from inside of the old sump.     edit: If VAG wants to use chea

  • I wasn't suggesting dumping it at your local nature reserve
