Tyres on Octavia Spiders...

Featured Replies

I've ordered some 195/40/17's for my Spiders, however, I can't help but think I have perhaps made the wrong choice! Has anyone got any pics of their Spiders with these size tyres on?

I wouldn't personally use them on a mk1 fabia.

The ride will be much harder due to the lower profile, and the alloys more at risk of damage from pot holes etc.

Also got a nasty feeling the tyre to arch gap will look massive.

That's what I thought as well. I think I'll send them back and get some 205/40's!

How wide are spiders?

I ran 195/45/16 on my standard alloys for a while and they looked and handled fine.

Hardly any difference to the 205/45 standards.

I disagree.

A slightly harder ride would surely improve the firmness of the car and re the gap, the gap is already massive as it is.

The MK1 looks horrible on the standard alloys where as it drastically improves the car's looks on Spiders, just my opinion of course.

Re tyres, look at Bridgestone RE070's. Had them on my DC5 Type R and they're a great tyre. £70 from Camksill, very chunky tyre though at 225 width but they look great.

The tyres arrived this morning and after I discovered it would be £60 to send them back I decided to bite the bullet and have them fitted. I must say inital impressions are they don't feel much different in terms of ride quality to the 205/40 R888's that have just been taken off. A nice thing is that the humming of the 888's has gone...that was most annoying for road use haha! Just need some spacers now, already on coilovers but I'm not the type of person to have them wound right down so have a nice little bit of arch gap.

I disagree.

The ride is harder going to a 205/40 17,but going to a 195/40 17 would be harder again.

The arch gap will be larger on a 195/40 than a 205/40 unless you drop the ride height,as the tyre is a smaller diameter.

And only a retard would run a mk1 fabia on 17's without lowering it,so the comparison you use from standard alloys compared to spiders is not really a good comparison

Just for reference this is my car now, not the best two pics but didn't really have the time to get more pics or the room. As I say, spacers are needed and I'll work out what size this evening.

Haha! Wish I'd gone for 45's really but I'm generally pretty good at staying away from kerbs ;)

Personally I've ran 215's on my 17"'s for year however I think I'll change to 205 next time.

Yeah mine does look like a 4x4 but funds are lacking :(
