to jet or not to jet, that is the question...

Featured Replies

the engine bay of my new baby is a bit oily, bit dirts and needs a clean

Q. Would you gunk+jet wash it with all the electronics under there?

No.

I use my pressure washer in my engine bay, no problem.  Have always done this to all my cars and bikes never with any issues.  It's not a petrol driven high power pressure washer, just a mains powered one so it's not crazy high pressure anyway.

With the Superb having so many plastic covers and stuff the cleaning is mostly cosmetic anyway.

definitely no , unless you like intermittent gremlin type faults , get treatment for your OCD instead

I wouldn't. Grin and bear the elbow work.

might cover the engine with a tarp and do the wings and under bonnet i think then anything else by hand

your talking to a man who once polished to a mirror finish a battery restraining strap on a LDV Convoy....

That was probably the most expensive component on an LDV Convoy - I don't blame you for polishing it.

I wouldn't bother, there's a bonnet covering it :D

If you go to view a car detailer you will find they use the pressure washer on the engines. I use mine at least once a year on my Superb and Landcruiser with no problems, but then they are diesels.

On old diesels....perkins, cummins, transit banana no problem....these bloody petrol-wannabees with half of NASA under the bonnet?....

Wouldn't a steam cleaner be better? less volume of water and still has the pressure and a bit of heat to get the grime off.

They seem to favour steam cleaners at auctions, the engines are always sparkling when they go through.

The engine isn't designed to take high pressure water from above. A bit of moisture, rain, spilt cup of tea perhaps.

Skoda have built in systems to prevent water ingress into the engine bay (wheel arch liners, engine under trays, wiper scuttle trays, partially blanked grills etc.).

Would you jet wash the dashboard?

Just because the last person that did it didn't cause immediate damage doesn't mean you won't, or that the water ingress will eventually rear it's ugly head a few years down the line.

I only see the engine once a month when checking the levels. Get the wife to do it and then you'll never see the dirt.

good point, I never flush my loo as there is a cover on that too. the sheer weight alone eventually flushes the oldest.

Still have rugs in the home too so dirt can be covered by them.

I have been guilty of given it a spray with the hose but not the pressure washer, Used to use a PW on my dirt bikes, the water  used to get behind the bearing seals and take dirt with it

No need. Eat some chips.Have another dump. Now you have a fresh batter burger, ready to go.

Skoda owners - simply clever.

hmmmm I'm worried that my sarcasm was none too evident there!

My point was that dirt is dirt and must not be tolerated, even with a cover.

The engine bay or your loo?
