Draining radiator/coolant system!

Featured Replies

Me again, lovely weekend of working on my car.

Does anyone happen to have a link to a guide to flushing/cleaning cooling system.

Think my radiator may have a leak so I'm going to try and see if some of that radiator sealant stuff works.

Try tightening the thermoswitch a touch, if it seems to be at or near there. Easy fix if it is.

Second stupid question... Where abouts is that!

Just above where the bottom coolant hose connects. Has a 3-wire connector plugged onto it. 29mm deep socket is the ideal tool, but you might get an open-ended/adjustable spanner on it, maybe.

/\ this.

There isn't a seal on it so a leak is quite common.

As for putting sealer in the cooling system, don't. I've seen it bung up thermostats and water galleries in the block before now.

As above,sealer is a bodge.

Mine had a leaky rad. Quite common apparently according to garage that replaced it for me. £120 all in to have a new one.

They are at the ripe old age now where they just start to rot away :(

That's a good price for the job IMO :)

Yeah I thought so too. Saved a load of hassle considering the job is quite involved.
