Will it fit ?

Featured Replies

Hi all you lucky people that own a Mk3 Octavia vRS.

I presently own a 2012 Octavia Vrs that only just fits in my garage due to the rear spoiler being very close to the up and over garage door when I shut it.

The lip of the spoiler sits 45" from the floor.

I know that the Mk3 is 8.6 cm longer than the Mk2 but lengthwise it will still fit if the spoiler is lower on the Mk3 than Mk2.

Could one of you kind people measure from the floor to the lip of the spoiler on a Mk3 for me please.

Hopefully it will be a little lower and I can purchase a Mk3.

Many thanks

You talking sedan or estate? Also, VRS versus standard will have different suspension setups and therefore different heights.

Never mind me, I am drunk :) I see you wrote VRS, but the sedan vs estate question still applies.

You may want a consensus if you're going to make such a big purchase, but for what it's worth I make mine approx 44.6 inches from the floor up to the tip of the rear spoiler (centre of the car). Mines a 2015 hatch, not much in the boot. Will be lower when fully laden.

Do you not trust yourself to reverse in? The car is lower at the front.

Thanks for the replies both. I did consider reversing into the garage Czechers but my garage is in a block and occasionally some idiot will park in the way and make it very difficult to get in. Still an option though.

Take it for a test drive and see if it fits. It's what I did with my dealer, I asked if I could take it home and make sure I could park it.

Obviously it depends on the dealer.

vRS 230 hatch with 19" wheels

Measures 112.5cm or 44 and ¼ inches +/- ¼" or 6mm.

I measured it above the badge in the centre where the spoiler will be highest

I had a quick look because its dark but I think my 2014 tfsi is about 46" to the centre of spoiler but it was dark outside.

Surely a car is worth a lot more than a garage though. Could you just get a modification to the garage door ? Sounds like its the handle or something, I'm sure there are other possibilities to garage doors ?

When I had a custom cruiser bike and a my old house had tiny little shed I had the concrete door widened along with the door.

Anything may be possible with time money and patience, maybe you can find a lateral solution, if the car won't shrink, maybe the door can.

can you borrow a dealer demo for a quick check?

in a previous life i had a car that technically fitted in the garage, but the "sweep" of the door meant it actually wasn't viable.

You can get garage doors with different closing operations.

You can also get the fully electrified ones that are on a winder that lift and drop vertically behind the car.

I know it's more expense, but it's worth looking into if you really like the car and are committed to keeping it for a good number of years.

The Mk3 is also wider.

I have accepted that my Mk3 is too wide to fit my garage. I had enough problems with the Mk2 scraping the front arches as I reversed out. The Mk3 is a little wider so best not to try.

I would have to demolish the central pillar of the double garage put in a steel beam and fit a double width door (big money for a house we may be moving from)!!

yep, this is what we did in the end, electric rolleshutter door works great, much more clearance and a higher opening too.

only thing to be aware of is if you don't have any other way of getting into the garage you'll need to consider how to get in when there's a power cut or if the fuse blows in the motor :)

glue some carpet to the wall

That won't stop the mirrors catching the door pillars as there is only 12cm spare :-(

I'm assuming the 12cm spare doesn't include the mirrors? Otherwise, what's the problem?

The problem is I can't get a straight run into garage as it is at right angles to the drive. The car inevitably ends up at slight angle. This causes problems coming out as you have to fiddle about to clear the mirrors then the wheel arches can rub on the door pillars
