Ah yes to Alpine but now i'm trawling through Kenwood trying to find the acceptable face of bling.

Kenwood-schmenwood...the Alpine will sounds a million times better, and has more flashing lights than the Oldham Optic Massive. Which is a whole lot of Bling-Bling.

I believe the KDC-M9021 is still available in SE edition. But can you live with red, blue, yellow and white in one display? :D

Mind you, it looks terrific with the panel switched back! Shame that it doesn't play music that way...

Rob you sneer at those who say the Alpine has a harsh sound then?

JVC do a thing called the Cameleon which turns into the obelisk from 2001. All the lights go out to leave a blackflat surface.....spooky.

The Kenwood 6024 and 7024 don't look too bad but now i've got to scour the samll print to see what they can do

I'd say these folk especially need Alpine stuff as, obviously having no ears, they can't wear glasses and so would benefit from the bright flashing lights. :D

I wouldn't say I'd sneer at them though, I've never been one to mock the less fortunate...

Ah, have now seen the green Alpine 9813R - don't doubt the quality, but that look is just bling-bling in green... Which makes it just one notch up on the Kenwood! :D

BTW, the Blaupunkts look nice and uncluttered but they're all red-and-blue, just as the Kenwoods. The Grundig SCD 2493 MP3 with a pure green display (http://www.grundig-car-intermedia.de/produkte/car_audio/2000/set_2000.htm) is a looker, but is it any good?

Think it's "Die Alpine mit dem Lightsinflashung"...

Has no-one been on this site since 5PM?? Anyway, as promised here's a close-up piccie of my HU. Nice and simple, well laid out, silver, sorted!

nice pic... but have to say im still firmly in the alpine camp.. the pioneer unit in the tvr isnt bad but its just not alpine.

It looks more Teutonic than an Alpine! Unusually for a Kenwood its not festooned with colour - but it hasn't got an analogue twisty volume control essential in any car audio or am I just old fashioned.

See you've got the hang of the digital camera just wait till your subject is moving! Nice to know people actually live in north Devon more of a Plymouth man myself.

And its also good to see the small German community in Rochdale is thriving.

Rob has almost persuaded me with his vehement championing of Alpine that I should go green. Domestic budget discussions will held in the New Year (that's the first minute of 2004) so plenty of time to change my mind .

Is there such a thing as the January sale in car audio?

Figure walks muttering into the distance

I'm more mid/west/central Devon, myself. North Devon is quite a drive up the A386 for me. :(

No offence to Plymouth, but I don't really like the place, perhaps because I don't go there often enough. People always seem to being killed there.. etc etc... Not like where I am. :)

January Sale? Must be, if you get it from one of those Comet/Currys type places. They'lll all be doing Jan sales, guarenteed.

Oh, and a twisty knob is nice, but those up/down volume buttons are big enough for my fat fingers. :D

Now you just need a cupholder to finish off the look! :D

My Panasonic HU matches the colour of the Tavia dash well. It's a fairly basic MP3 and WMA player, but it suits my needs. The wife likes the remote control as she sits in the back with our baby!

No need for a cup holder for me, ta... :D Quite happy with my bottle holding passenger seat rail adjuster handle gizmo thingy widget!

Thanks Jason... I agree, that's almost un-Kenwood-like!

No, but would you like to buy an Alpine product all the same? :D

Rob.

If anyone wants the Alpine 9812/13/15 manual, I have it in pdf format.

I'm thinking of changing the HU for my furby, and I find the best way to know what it really does is to try and get hold of the manual!

Phoned up Alpine CS, and they were fantastic. Sent me an email immediately with the pdf attached. :D

If anyone wants, let me know and I'll post it in cyberspace somewhere...

And could you post a pic of that?!? I'm curious ;)

Well, my decision was based on your comments Rob :p

Seriously though, I just like the idea of a no-nonsense HU that doesn't have 3 zillion flashing lights looking like Blackpool pier but sounds the biz and has the features I'm after. I'm a minimalist kind of guy, and so am tempted by the Pioneer 77 thingy too - although it may look a little too retro for my fancy vRS

I'm minimalist too, but the 98xx series doesn't look to any more minimalist to me than what others have on offer. It is green, I'll give it that, which makes it go well with a Skoda dash.

But is the same type of green? Or are they two clashing types of green? :D

[wanders off on slippery fashion guru path] ;)

Xavier - I bloomin well will tonight then... :D [new digital camera smiley]

Take a look at the rail adjust handle when you're next in your furby - The gap is perfect to hold a bottle in, but won't do a cup as it'll spill - a sealed bottle (reasonably fat) will be the only thing that can fit there.

John, what in hell is all that stuff? Looks like you've moved the clima to make room for something else, too - how easy was that?
