Honda Civic test drive

The Civic has a 100k mile warranty  ??

I reckon the Type-R will be about £23k in order to compete with comparably specced Golf GTI and Astra VXR. It's going to struggle (IMHO) to compete with the Focus ST on price.

I tend to agree' date=' I much prefer this version of the new Civic:

Si version, 197hp (motor from old shape type-r). They do lesser versions also, starting at $14,500 here.

Oooh , very nice , though not as practical as a hatch.

I've noticed in the last few years that mainstream american cars are looking better and better.

Before I always thought the UK equivalents were nicer looking but now it's frequently the opposite.

Yep , thats one of the things that appeals to me as my 60k warranty had run out after two years.

The expensive service costs are a worry though

I believe Subaru are also offering a 5 year/100k warranty on their cars now as a special promotion, although if you read the small print, I think it only covers a few things after 60k miles.

I think Hyundai also offer a 100k mile warranty too so hopefully this will become more commonplace :D

^ I think the Hyundai warranty is 'bumper to bumper' as they term it over here, i.e. it covers everything except consumables. No reduction in coverage after 60k like the scooby warranty.

I took out a Civic type S and Type R a few weeks back when I was still trying to decide what car I wanted to get (list was civic type ?, leon cupra, ibiza cupra or octy vrs) and me and the wife were not struck at all.

Didn't like the interior stereo wise, was told by saleman that I couldn't get a conversion plate to change the stock HU and even worse the type R had the 6 disc changer underneath the hu and it looked awful - he reckoned that was how it was meant to be, looked naff to me.(like it was missing a facia plate!)

Also I really wasn't fussed by the vtec thing, didn't feel it was that impressive (especially in the type s which being 5 door was a more likely choice), but the real killer came in the form of the salesman driving me about 4 miles before letting me loose in the type R, then claiming that if I were to be caught speeding his license would get the points!! - just goes to show the difference in sales tactics eh?!

Add that to the fact that Honda thought it was a good idea to not include air con as standard (meaning there's loads of non air conned versions in the 10k price bracket) and I thought the octy vrs I'd driven that morning was the one for me!

Just my humble opinion ;)

He was talking out his ****! You can get a facia plate if you want to replace the standard head unit although you don't need on as the hole behind the factory on is a single DIN. ;)

The cd changer in the dash isn't standard and i agree it looks pants, standard you get a cubby hole there in silver to match the dash, there is also the option of an in-boot CD changer.

With regards to AC, the reason it isn't standard in the Type-R is meant to be light weight and raw.... although if i were to be buying one now i'd defo go for AC. ;)

Yeah other people have since told me that but when you spend time sat in traffic roasting it makes me realise I need air con!!!

The biggest shame about the civic was the fact the proper power is only available in the 3 door, which isn't practical for my needs, and the 5 door type S felt like a slug after I'd driven the vrs.

I did think the salesman wasn't that knowledgeable on the facia idea and the amount of miles he drove me (when there were LOADS of places to pull in and swap) really put me off - I'm 30 years old, could understand it if I was 18:rofl:

Different strokes for different folks I suppose..................................

My mate at work had a 54 Civic Type R from new, and I got my furby new on the same day. He had the Civic for a year before insisting that Honda buy it back. In 12 months it was in thier workshops for nearly 8 months. He said it was a pile of ****e.

The Civic WOULD have been my next car, not anymore, no sir.
