I've just remembered something.

I'm halfway sure I've seen a parts diagram showing an option on (even early) htp engines for an oil level sensor that goes in instead of a dipstick tube. Can't get my parts website working just now though. Don't think it was an option in the UK when these engines first came out though. Dunno if it had a temp sensor combined. I'll have a look at some current flow diags, that might help.

Thanks xman, that is interesting.  Looks similar to mine, yet not quite the same.  Is that what VAG are using lately, or an oil quality sensor.

Up to 2010 at least, Fabias with the oil level/temp sensor were using the same 1J0907660C/B as I've got.

About the time that some VW engines changed from having the Fixed Service Code to Variable Flexible Servicing.

Then a year or so later Skoda did the same on the engines they used which were the same engines as in the VW's.

Hello

One other question that came up at the weekend - does anyone know what the replacement age is for the coolant on the HTP engine??

Thanks

Chris

As far as Im concerned, coolant in all VAG engines is "lifetime". I would only be concerned if there was a significant change in colour or evidence of contamination e.g. head gasket problem.

I had a mk1 HTP that I ran for 140,000 miles 11 years and the coolant was still pink.

When I do topup the coolant, which is maybe only 100ml or so every 3 or 4 years, I do top up with genuine vw G12++ neat. The factory coolant mix is only about 35%, but it can increased to 50% (for extreme cold climate).

Dont top up above the Max mark as it just gets blown out.

Coolant change on these are so easy so may aswell put some new stuff in, just remove small under shield and unscrew the drain tap. I did it a couple of times to make sure the old stuff out of the block
