To map or not to map...

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I've recently purchased a greenline II and am thinking about this remap thing. I use the car to tow a small trailer regularly and am thinkng it may be better for the engine to get it remapped so there's more power there and so am not straining it as much. Is this a good idea or have I misunderstood what it does?

To be honest I don't know anything about remapping but my fundamental question is "is this bad for the car in the long run"?

Anyone out there had it done to the greenline II? Have you noticed any increase in maintenance etc?

Thank you for any guidance!

Providing you do not drive it like a hooligan there really is no downside to remapping a car, they drive much better and the fuel consumption will also improve very slightly.

They require no extra maintenance, it may effect your warranty if they can prove the remap (extra power / torque) was the reason the item failed, your insurance will also probably go up slightly too... check with them 1st as some will not cover modified cars at all.

Go to someone who comes recommended though,

personally I have used Shark Performance on 3 cars all with excellent results (you can usually expect around 30 bhp increase from a TDi, the torque will also go up dramatically - the last car I had mapped this went up by 25%!)

Hi,

If you find you have any issues with insurance at all for a re-map then please feel free to drop me a line.

Regards,

Dan.

I had my Greenline III remapped by Superchips, it's the best money you will ever spend. I now have a much more drivable car, safe overtaking, can get upto speed easily, all round a far better car to drive. I think as long as you stick with a big name you will be fine. Superchips were great in my opinion, I had a before and after dyno as well so I knew exactly what I was getting. They will honour any warranty issues (Not that I expect there to be any) if Skoda were to find that the remap caused an issue etc and could prove that the remap caused it.

Is that a OBD2 port chip or in the ECU welded in?

ECU

I had my Mondeo 240 PS remapped by Superchips. Didn`t work out at all. Engine revved up to 3500 rpm only. Acceleration was like old days turbo: wait, wait, and then it suddenly awakes. They changed the ECU map two times, no success, after what they raised their hands and I returned to original settings.

Present Superb has DTUK`s CRD-T+ box installed and I am completely satisfied with it.
