Where would i find Alarm siren in mk2 octavia, i do not have workshop manual for car as my car is not covered by it. Also looking to see how plastic trim panel on tailgate comes off without snapping clips off, as rear wiper has stopped working. All fuses Ok

The alarm siren is under the drivers front wing.

 

You have to remove the wheel arch liner to get to it.

 

 

The rear trim is mostly clips. There is one screw holding the handle in place. Once this is undone, it can be pulled off. It needs a good tug as they are tight clips.

If the alarm siren is not operating or producing an error code that it is inoperative, It is likely to be the rechargeable cells for battery backup

 

The unit is sealed, you can carefully cut it open along the plastic seam and buy some similar cells from Maplin, assuming the PCB is not too far gone. The cells tend to leak and then damage the board though. Otherwise it is a new unit. If you wanted to only do the job once you may care to purchase a replacement before taking the old one out.  The metal casing shield is pop riveted in one place AFAIR as well and a bit of a pain.

I wouldn't bother trying to replace the batteries.

 

Just buy a new unit.

 

They are cheap enough. (less than £25)

The metal case that this is housed in is riveted in as mentioned, but you can easily bend the bracket, remove the siren, and bend the bracket back into place.

 

Worst part is removing all of the crud that builds up behind the wheel arch liner.

Thanks, I found screw took it out seem to of snapped all clips along lower tailgate edge where lock is, not quite got cover off, feels nailed on..

Siren location would that be seen when o/s head lamp is removed.

To get to the siren, you have to jack the car up, take the wheel off and then remove the inner wheel arch liner.

It's quite far back into the wing.

There is no other way of getting to it unfortunately.
