Help - Yet another Octavia with door locking issues.

Yet another Octavia with door locking issues.

Having read a number of threads on this I'm totally confused and in need of help.

Car is an 02 TDI elegance combi.

Any clues here :

(i) Opening driver  door usually gets internal light to come on but door open light on dash is off and puddle light is off ( occassionally the internal light does not come on - this might be due to the switch on the light itself having an intermittent )

(ii) Unlock with FOB and get into drivers seat & shut door - usually all doors will lock after 30 seconds. Sometimes the driver door remains unlocked and the others lock

(iii) The driver side rear passenger door took to deadlocking itself and not unlocking. I'm not convinced that this is due to that lock being faulty ( perhaps its a consequence of this other  issue ? ). So, for the time being,  I've pulled the connector off that door lock.

I cleared codes and ran an autoscan. Result as follows :

FWIW all the windows work as they should both from internal controls and drivers door key.

Where sould I start looking and what should I be looking for ?

( In some threads on locking issues I've seen reference to connections 'under the carpet' - where are these located ? )

If it's an intermittent fault, I would have a look at the wiring in between the A pillar and the door where it passes through the convoluted rubber boot. They are prone to stress related damage from the opening and closing of the door. It could also be the micro switches on the door catch itself causing issues (there is a good write up on the forum somewhere), as they control the functions that are missing from your description - interior light, door open indicator, central locking etc.

The switches can be replaced fairly cheaply, although it's quite a faff about to do them from how I understand it, other options include a new mechanism (££££'s) or take a chance on a 2nd hand unit. If/when mine decides to give up, I think I will get a 2nd hand catch and fit new switches to that before fitting it to the car.

Chinese lock mechs on ebay are good for the money. I fitted one to the Ibiza and (while its working, touch wood) it's nicer than a gen one. Less clunky and smoother. Was about 35 quid from a UK seller.

As said i and ii sound like microswitch issues and wiring is worth checking. Check the big multiplugs on window motors too for corroded or missing pins.

(ii) Unlock with FOB and get into drivers seat & shut door - usually all doors will lock after 30 seconds. Sometimes the driver door remains unlocked and the others lock

All VAG cars of that age lock after 30 seconds, unless you turn on the ignition.

They don't relock if you open and close a door, at least all the ones I've been near do that.

The wiring loom in the door is something ridiculous like an inch short from the factory, meaning over time the cables get damaged and break. Octyal mentioned this already. Just pull the rubber boot back and check the cables.

Yeah the ecu knows when a door has been opened and won't lock again until you drive off and go over 10 (if you have anti hijack on). It's a classic microswitch fault as when it plays up the ecu doesn't know the door has been opened and will lock when it shouldn't. New/good used mech will sort most of your problems, stuff digging out microswitches for a lark.

Thanks all for your help.

So its looking like the microswitch.

I've got hold of a Haynes manual. Are the wiring diagrams in it generally accurate ?

If the wiring checks out I'll probably get a new lock rather than try to fix the microswitch

Preferring Amazon over Ebay would

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Mechanism-Number-3B1837016A-Passat-Shipping/dp/B00DM3YUGC/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1473933877&sr=8-3&keywords=right+front+door+lock+skoda

do the job ?

( Indeed has anyone tried one of these ? )

There are a few different listings for the item on Amazon for the life of me I cant see how do they differ ?

I have an ebay chinese lock in my back door, its been perfect and less faff than changing microswitch. Respect to anyone who does that, btw, i just didnt have the time.

If its not the wiring its the lock mech switch. The wiring in the A pillar is easy check any way..
