Superb steering rack fit an EXEO?

Featured Replies

Hi folks, i have a Seat Exeo 170 which uses the servotronic steering rack, i thought i heard somewhere that the same rack is used on the Superb and a lot of the B6/B7 Audi A4's.  Does anybody know if this is the case as Seat want £687 for a new one before fitting?

I am considering all options including salvage and reconditioned parts.

Is the leaking power steering rack an issue on the Superbs?

I doubt it. The Exeo is based on the B7 Audi A4 which has a longitudinal engine and a lot of different packaging to fit around that, plus the rack is hydraulic. The B6 Superb is a transverse engined car and uses an electrically assisted rack that is shared with the B6 Passat.

Thanks for your reply, the 143bhp Exeo uses the standard Hydraulic rack yet the 170bhp one uses an electro hyrdraulic one.  I was looking the other day at ZF racks and i'm sure it had the A4/Exeo and Superb as matching vehicles yet i can't find the site anymore.

The rack from the first gen Superb (typ 3U) might be compatible since that was based on longitudinal B5 platform. The second gen Superb (typ 3T) has a fully electric rack - there's a motor attached to the rack to provide assistance. This sub-forum is specific to the Superb 2. You might get a better response posting on the Superb 1 sub-forum.

Do you have the part number? If you do you can check what cars it is used on (VW, Audi, Skoda or Seat) here: http://etka.cc/

Why not find a local specialist it would be much cheaper to get them to recon the rack........

yeah i had a look at that but almost everythin i read talked about them failing within 6 months to a year which surprised me.  If i found numerous reviews of recon racks that were still going strong i would most likely opt for that.

Maybe these people can help, I've heard good reviews about them http://regoautoparts.com/
