Gumtree? eBay? Piston heads? Briskoda?

How long were you looking before you decided it was "the one"?

ebay and word of mouth for mine.

Waited over a year for a special edition.

Everything els has just been opportunity i guess, have a quick look on ebay, think thats alright that, i'll put a bid in and win them.

From a main dealer via an advert on Autotrader.  From when I seriously started to search about 6 weeks until I owned one.  Didn't want a DSG version but failed to see the mention of DSG in the advert.  Once I had driven it then decided DSG was for me.  Was fairly flexible on colour as long as it wasn't white.

Simpsons Skoda through Drive the Deal. I got £1200 off list and they sold me the wrong "stock" car I got cruise control and airbag deactivation for free.

Found mine on Autotrader.

If I'm honest, mine was the only one I actually viewed I just knew she was gonna do me well and 5 and a half years later, touch wood, has been bob-on

After about 6 months of searching for the right one.

Was looking on autotrader etc for ages, realized I couldn't afford one so started looking at ibiza. Thenamazingly one came up not far away and was the cheapest in the country. Had petty much 6 trouble free years with it.

Got mine 5 years ago. Couldn't find any anywhere so asked the local car dealer who goes to auctions and buys specifically asked for vehicles (usually diesel estates lol) and he found one almost straight away and bought it. I paid more than I wanted to but 5 years later I still love it and it's only had a couple of issues (apart from the turbo blowing this week!).

I got mine from Gumtree 2 months ago. I bought it cheap as the head gasket was gone. but i have repaired that and the car is running fantastic. Other than than wheels need a refurb mine is a cracking example.

Local garage forecourt, actually went there to look at another car and had never ever thought about buying a Fabia until I saw it there in person and then went home to do some research on them, went back the next day to buy it!

Got mine 3 years ago from a past forum member. Spotted it for sale on eBay first but checked on here looking for info on the car and it was for sale on here. Liked the car but took a chance on waiting for the price to come down and then bought it at a good deal.

Looked on autotrader for quite a while, found quite a few lemons all strangely in the bradford area, including one guy who wanted such a quick sale that when he spoke to my finance company for them to confirm some company details he handed me the phone back and the company said they wouldnt finance the car as his company isnt legit...as you do..

 

Another in bradford had the front grill replaced with wire mesh which was tiger sealed in, the glovebox had a birds nest, every seat was FUBAR, the boost pipes were mostly tape - and the saleman comes to me and says, its a great car isnt it..,.I gave him my best, I'm going to punch you face as i threw the key back...

 

In the end I found something more local from a company called Total Automobiles in Poynton, who gave me an honest appreciation of the car, I had a good look through the service, he MOT'd it just in case there was anything I'd have missed in looking over the car myself and we had a deal on it!

I found mine on Autotrader, located in Poole. Full Skoda history, one previous owner and always serviced on the dot if not before. Went to have a look and a test drive and secured it with the proviso they fixed a few niggles at no cost.

Went back the next week and brought it home and been happy with it ever since. Remapped last year from a book figure of 100hp to 154. (made 125 on a rolling road before the remap)

 

Damn, just realised the topic title. Mine's not a vRS. Sorry to have wasted anyones time.

Autotrader,travelled from Sunderland to Leicester because I wanted one with zenons & a full dealer history,looked at lots of tat locally that was either over priced or the service history consisted of a couple of bills from kwik fit for punctures & a battery...now had nearly eight years happy trouble free motoring.

Aug/Sept 2006, went to local Skoda dealer, test drove one, then went elsewhere and drove a Bini Cooper. Went back to Skoda and bought one. 10 years later I still have it.

I think the episode (plus 5th Gear's test) was actually shown after I bought it, but I might be wrong.

 

I wasn't sure what to buy, I'd whittled it down to a Fiesta TDCI, Mini Cooper or Furby vRS. There wasn't a diesel Fiesta to drive at Ford dealership, so went over the road to Skoda and drove a vRS, (Mother had bought her Fabia from there a year earlier). Straight after that went to BMW and drove a BRG Bini Cooper.

 

BTW, I call BMW Minis Binis, as a Mini to me was made by Rover.

Main dealer for our red one. Was only 2 years old at the time, and ebay for my SE in May this year. I was the only person who phoned and spoke to the guy. People never seem to do this anymore. Can't understand it. You can learn a lot by talking to the owner.

 

I ended up talking to him for over an hour finding out that he looked at 7 before buying this one and it was the best by miles. He was an armoury engineer on the Tornadoes at RAF Lossiemouth, in his 50's and the genuine type of guy you feel confident buying from. He was only selling cos he was doing too many miles in it travelling from the north of Scotland to his home in Hartlepool every couple of weeks. He said the car is actually too good and being an SE in this condition, rare, to be putting so much miles on and he had bought an older Golf for these big journeys.

 

He described the car 100% accurately and phoned me when it was nearly ending but I was watching anyway. He was delighted when I won it saying that he knew I was genuine too as I already had one and clearly knew all about them.

 

Great deal all round and the car is fantastic. Not mint, but as good as I think you'll get. Nice subtle mods, low ish mileage and drives as new.

OK so I don't own and have never driven a VRS but I did watch the Top Gear episode mentioned above. As I recall their conclusions, I might have expected all the talk on here to be about handling mods but upgraded turbos and maps seem to dominate - just a bit surprised, that's all.

Can't polish a turd. They're okay at going in a straight line so that is the easiest thing to improve. Harder to make progress in the handling department with the ride height and weight of the PD lump. Suppose many people, myself included, accept that and therefore focus on reinforcing it's strengths.

I had been researching one for ages and then came the time to buy, suddenly, all the red ones and yellow ones that I had slevered over disappeared.

I hunted for the right one for nearly two months with no success. Fortunately a silver one came on the scene at a garage 60 miles away, it was the best that I had seen that I could afford for quite some time so, the deal was done. 

Five years on, some 60K and four grand lighter I've replaced all the suspension, brakes, tyres, and done numerous repairs. It still pulls like a train.
