Fault code P0299 HELP

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I'm hoping you can help me as my garage are now at a loss as to what to do with my car as we've tried most things. I'll list events and replacement parts below:

Car Octavia VRS 56 plate.

Glow plug light comes on and engine goes into safe mode.

This happened off and on over several weeks but not daily.

Garage plugged in and fault code P0299

Checked all connections, pipes, vacuum.

Didn't work.

Had diesel particle light also come on.

New actuator advised but couldn't get one for my turbo. Even tried a repair kit but oh no, can't get that either for mine.

Eventually garage reluctantly replaced the turbo GT1749VC

This didn't solve the problem and glow plug light and engine safe mode happened again.

Garage changed pressure switch and check pipes, connections again.

Drove 100 miles and car started the tale tale 'resistance'. Glow plug light flashing again.

Stopped and car generally is ok for a while but...

Glow plug light flashing again, engine in safe mode and now I have the light on for the control system for exhaust gases.

Car really chuggy (can't think of a better word)

Car recovered from Wiltshire to Wales.

Garage checked everything again and replaced the a vacuum switch that seemed to be 'faulty'. He wasn't sure but ordered a new one to see if mine was failing and there was a difference so replaced mine.

Drove car for 5 minutes and glow plug light back on, engine in safe mode.

Also diesel particle light was on (now off after driving 2,500 revs in 4th gear).

I have no idea if this is relevant. Also I have noticed if you try and keep the revs up the car does 'jolt' sometimes like it's on an elastic band being released.

The garage doesn't know what else to do so I said I'd do some investigation. I have read other threads on here that people have experienced the same.

This really is my last hope.

Thanks

Sorry the fault code is: P0299. Code stated actuator and can't get one for my car - tried everywhere and also a repair kit - Nope not happening.

This is the reason the turbo was replaced

P0299 is a known issue on this vehicle, it required some checks on the turbo. Unfortunately the turbo has been replaced which doesn't bode well

Symptom

The engine warning light illuminates

Fault codes:

P0299

16683

Cause

Worn turbocharger blades

Solutions

Start the engine

Connect the diagnostic tool

Check the inlet manifold pressure

At idle speed

~ 980 mBar

Full load

~ 1520 mBar

Note: The value is too low

Check the turbocharger actuator rod for correct operation

If no fault is found

Stop the engine

Turn the ignition off

Apply and maintain vacuum to the turbocharger blade pneumatic control valve

200 mBar

Use a vacuum pump

Start the engine

Check the inlet manifold pressure

At idle speed

~ 980 mBar

Press the accelerator pedal smoothly

If the displayed value is:

Full load

< 1700 mBar

Note: The value is too low

Stop the engine

Turn the ignition off

Check the turbocharger blades for wear

Visual wear indicator

Renew the turbocharger

Turn the ignition on

Delete all the fault codes

Each time you get a warning on the dash (glowplug, engine management, DPF) a fault code is almost always recorded.

Each time the car drops into limp home mode a fault code is almost always recorded.

I suspect there will be more than just the P0299 code at play here.

The occasional jolt you talk about at high revs is the DPF dropping in or out of regeneration mode. Mine did this too.
