Self service

Featured Replies

Hi guys

My 2010 octavia Vrs diesel is due a service

I'm looking to get it done independently and supply the parts myself

What is the best engine oil and filters

I've been looking at getting the Mann filters or Bosch

Apparently according to motor factors there's two different types of fuel filter for my ccar as the housing unit could be different ??

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks Dan

South Wales area

I service my VRS myself and just get all the parts from TPS. Off the top of my head for all the filters and oil it's about £60-70 I last paid. Just over £100 when I replaced the spark plugs before.

Quantum longlife III - 5L for ~£24 on ebay.  Filters on ebay too. I just went for OEM parts.

EDIT - sorry didn't see you had diesel.

The fuel filter is always the problem on the diesel ... Someone commented that on the pre FL if you removed the headlight you can get a better look at the filter housing to get the make etc from it but I don't know if this apples to the FL ... I usually just bug my oil and filters out of Euro Car Parts and go for the Mann filters

The make up mirror is a key part of the Octavia toolkit. It's only the oil stains in the back of it that stop the missus accusing me of being a secret cross dresser...(Actually the truth is I had to buy her a new one after changing the thermostat last spring. I also had to get her a new make up bag as that too was somewhat marked).

I have the same vehicle. It's the UFI fuel filter on mine.

I use Shell Helix Ultra ECT (VAG 507.00 spec) and have started using Crosland filters.

I change the oil and filter every 5000 miles and the fuel filter every 10,000 miles.

The Shell Helix is increasing in price so as stated in a post above Quantum 507.00 spec (used by the dealer's) is a good price. I will start using that when my Shell oil runs out.

Shop about for the oil but this is the stuff:

Your vRS has a DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) so you must use oil that meets the VW 507.00 spec.

The main dealers use Quantum. You can buy 5 litres of it here from eBay for £22 delivered to your from a Skoda main dealer in Scotland, you can't go wrong...

This is the label on the fuel filter housing you need to find...

Audi-A3-8P-1095-Kraftstofffilter-3C01274

You are right to aim for Bosch or MANN, the later being OEM in most cases.

Eurocarparts are about as cheap as it gets, just make sure you use the most recent discount code (SALE30 for 30% off)...
