Drive failure DSG gearbox

Featured Replies

Hi,

I experience complete drive failure on the motorway coming home a couple of nights ago, fortunately I was able to coast onto the exit slip road and was recovered safely.

The problem has been diagnosed by a local garage as a badly corroded pin on the gearbox sensor unit. Is this a known fault with this gearbox?

The car is a 2011 Roomster SE 1.2 DSG with 29,000 miles on the clock.

I would appreciate any feedback from other owners.

Many thanks

Has your gearbox also had the service work done? Should have had gear oil changed and a software update which addresses similar issues.

Phil

Just to add to Phil's post:

If the service work has been done, there should be a sticker in the boot (to the left side of the spare wheel well) displaying the code 34F7.

I replied in the other post you posted.

And as in the posts above, look and see if the sticker is in the boot showing the Service Campaign work done.

then check the VIN Checker if not.

Thank you for your replies, I'm learning this is a can of worms!

There is no boot sticker with the code mentioned but one with 24W6. A check of the VIN no. for recalls via the helpful link says none issued for this vehicle.

As metatronic unit failure seems to be a known design fault with this gearbox I will press Škoda redress, so far have only been offered £500 off the replacement cost.

Having been recovered to home there is also the issue of getting the car to my service dealer 20 miles away. Ho hum

Cheers

Maybe someone in the know can tell what the '24WS' Campaign was for.

Do not trust the VIN Checker i linked, it often shows vehicles needing recall actions that do not, and misses ones that do need them.

Have Skoda Customer Services check the VIN & tell you the Warranty History and what ''24WS' was for.

There were Loom faults and also Turbo Shim in the past, then Timing Chain Tensioners.

24w6 recall was an ecu software update and a spacer shim fitted to the turbo actuator to prevent massive power loss when the turbo went outside its normal working parameters.

More information on my car's drive failure - it appears the fault lies with a pin lost through corrosion in a box attached to the gearbox (see pic attached).

The box is orientated as in the photo and a faulty seal has allowed water to sit in the bottom and rot away one of the pins.

Has anybody heard of this before and is the only solution really to change the metatronic unit at great expense?
