Driver Seat problem

Featured Replies

Can't believe it, cleaning the car this week and noticed the drivers seat bolster, (next to your bottom sits) which is leather, is beginning to crease. Now I expect some creasing to occur, but not when the car is less than 5 months old and I've only owned it for a month. It's a 16 plate SEL Exec, which has now done 10k. Added to this, the stitching which presumably holds the bolster and main seating area is coming loose in the corner where it meets the back rest.

Anyone experienced any similar problems? I'm waiting for a response from the dealership I bought the car from, but have a feeling they will do anything no to address the issue

Here are some photos;

Can't see your pics Sk. Have creasing in mine. Not worried about that. Talking to a leather expert said nothing to worry about.

Stitching coming loose is another matter. Why do you think the dealer will not do anything about it ?

My drivers seat makes a click noise on one certain left hand turn i do up over a bridge.

Never bothered to report it.

stitching is a different matter as above!

Hi Nick_H, I'll try and repost the pics. Regarding the stitching, I don't think the dealer will do anything because when I rung the sales person I purchased the car from. His words were, it's a used car so it's not going to be perfect. Anyhow I've emailed the pics and am waiting a reply. Another issue is that I purchased the car from the dealer in England and I live in Wales.

Hopefully this works. The issue with the stitching is between the seat bolster and main seat itself.

Thats a defect, not a wear and tear issue IMO

Agree, I have emailed with the pics stating that a car which is less than 5 months old should not have such an issue. Will await a response, but not holding my breath as their in Milton Keynes and I'm in Wales. ????

Yeah doesn't look right. Cars still covered by manufacturers warranty no matter where you purchased.

I hope so and hope that the defect is covered. So frustrating on what is a really nice car and one of the best I've ever owned. ????

Sounds like a poor dealer. Take it to another. Excellent dealers are out their....

Certainly getting that impression. I will try my local dealer if I get no luck with them. I thought I'd try them first seeing as I had car from them. I'll keep you updated.

I would just go to your local dealer. You can take the car to any dealer for a warranty matter; why bother with having to take it back to MK?

Going back to MK is not something I want to do. I just thought if I contacted the original dealer, they could then speak to my local dealer and sort it out. Or is that just complicating things?

Usually they will want to see the fault to confirm that it is a warranty item. That is not always easy to do from a picture with the type of problem you have. ( e.g. They might choose to argue that it is not wear and tear but damage from misuse by the previous owner.) I do agree from the pictures that it is a potential warranty claim. (inadequate or misaligned stitching perhaps?)

Given their first response I wouldn't wait, get it to your local people for their view. Apart from anything else you will have a second opinion.

Good luck.

Update: went to my local dealer to get an opinion. Spoke to the service manager who went out to have a look with the guy who deals with warranty claims. Went out to car, looked at the defect for what seemed like 30 seconds and agreed it is a defect and shouldn't be like that and compared it to other seat. Result - new seat. WOW. That's what I call customer service. Do I know tell the original dealer that I've sorted the issue?

Awesome ! No stuff original dealer. Nothing to do with 'em....

Chuffed with response from local dealer and also suggestion from Sagalout to get second opinion. Just didn't want the original dealer thinking why there's a claim already gone in. But like you say, nothing to do with them.

Nice result, Butt.

Which dealer sorted you out? I'm with White Dove on Hatfield Road, Cardiff.

Hiya Butt, it's Sinclair Skoda, in Swansea. Awesome customer service.

Great news and pleased to have helped. No need to tell the other 'stealer' anything unless you want to be polite and more helpful than they have been. I might be tempted to write to the dealer principal with a outline of how shabbily you were treated by one of his/her staff but I then I do tend to get a bit Victor Meldrew about this sort of thing.

Enjoy your new seat.

Thanks Sagalout. I'll post some pics when I get the new seat.

Hi all, thought I'd keep you updated on an email response I've had back from the original dealer. Although the response is lengthy, here is a section: "The problem you have referred to seems like wear and tear. I will forward the photos to my manager but I give no guarantee that we are able to do anything."

Woof, woof. Always some good 'uns and some not so good eh?

However, I think it is the same for many main dealers not just Skoda. Some are just not interested in helping with warranty claims and others are on your side so to speak.

I had issues with a merc c class a couple of years ago. Local dealer was not helpful at all; made me feel as if I was trying it on from the start. Took the car 25 miles down the road and the guy couldn't have been more helpful.

Hope Cardiff is as good as Swansea. (Dealers, not the cities)  :D

Agree with your post Sagalout, disappointment. Can't be more helpful when they want your cash, but not so when they have it. ????
