Fabia VRS Trunk light problem

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I am quite new in the Skoda community since I've bought my first Skoda like 2 weeks ago. It's Fabia VRS 2004 mk1.

The car itself is AMAZING, I can't tell you happy I am with my purchase.

Either way, straight to the point. I saw that in my trunk the light it's not lighting up whenever I open the 5th door, or I use my key to open the door from a distance. I thought in the beginning it was the bulb that was dead, but I checked it, and that wasn't the case. I removed the the plastic holder with the cable out and I took a multi-meter to see if I have electricity there, and yes it was 12v, to be exact 12.87 top. I hooked up different bulb because I thought something could be wrong with the previous one, but still no light whatsoever. In the end I tried to lock the rare door while it was still opened just so I can see if the current voltage will go to 0, and it didn't it. It went from 12 to 8.78.

Now I am lost, I am not entirely sure what to do. Has anyone had problem like this and if so, how you resolved it?

Thanks in advance.

P.S. As you can see from my profile I am not native English speaker, so if you're having troubles understanding something I will try my best to explain it.

Welcome :)

The boot switch simply earths the light. If you have 12 volts going to the light then the boot switch is most likely faulty (very common). The switch is part of the latch mechanism.

I fitted a rocker switch to mine instead of using the boot switch.

Hi!

I found out what the problem was! Pfff Man I got frustrated.

First of all, thank you for replying!

I am not entirely sure which one you're calling boot switch, but if it's the thing that pops up the door, it was not in my case. The problem is one little switch inside of the locker. Which I couldn't open in order to clean it and such, so I took one syringe with very tiny needle and trough the rubber pad I inserted contact spray inside. It worked pretty well. In the end I have working trunk light. Even though it's working, everyone knows it's pretty dark with it, so I am planning on putting another from the right side as well. Here are some pictures I took during the process. :)

Yes that's the thing I meant. We call the 'trunk' the 'boot' in the UK.

Glad you got it working!

I think I am just going to change the switch with new one, as soon as I find new one. It would be for the best. :)

Yes I would do that. It won't be long before it fails again if you don't :)

I replaced the whole unit pictured above today and the boot light came on! Yayyyyy

Shut the boot and opened it again and no light again

Not sure what I've done wrong as the light came on until I shut and then reopened the boot??

Well, after removing it again and giving everything a squirt with contact cleaner it's miraculously working properly now  :whew:
