Yeti Heater / Climate Control Problem

Featured Replies

Hi all,

my 2010 1.2tsi elegance has an issue with the climate control.

unless the heat is pretty much on maximum (red) no heat comes out of the face level vents, instead cold air only.  Seems to be some heat in the footwell though.

with the onset on winter, I would like to get this resolved.

before a trip to the dealers, any advice on what it might be / potential cost ?

(as an aside, it can smell "petrol-ey" in the car sometimes - could this be linked ?  (car always passes its MOT emissions).

Thanks in advance,

Giles.

If you get heat from some vents, doesn't sound like a heater failure.

Try the manual buttons to direct airflow from feet to screen, to face etc

There is a series of flaps to direct the airflow which are moved by small servos

Most likely one of these has failed or jammed, the manual button might just unstick it (bit of a long shot)

Had much the same problem on my Yeti - miserable in the Winter when it would either blow cold air or roast you alive after one mile if you turned the control fully around!  However, this was the only way to get any heat into the cabin!

Thanks to the determination of the Master Technician at Sparshatts, Fareham who discovered one of the OS air vent temperature sensors had failed.  The failed sensor part number was 1K0907543E at a cost of £23.22.  Unfortunately, the labour and VAT ensured that the final bill was £123.86.  Never had a problem since.

Hope this helps.

Best regards.

Thanks guys - will give manual control a try, but failing that at least i can approach the dealers with some "try this"

information first.

Surely a 'scan''would show up a sensor failure?.

Sometimes it requires a little brain power to work out these types of problems. Sensors can go 'out of spec' so they read a false value. If the sensor isn't outside of a pre determined range, the controller will not see it as a fault, but will interpret the false value and knock everything out of kilter.

I get it with thermistors on air conditioners from time to time, a misbehaving system with no fault codes - nightmare. The Climatronic system has several thermistors on it for temperature management.

Monitoring live values can root out a rogue sensor - if you know what to look for.

My money would be a mechanical component like a flap motor, rather than a solid state component like a thermistor .

I would hook up VCDS and be checking every flap motor, one at a time.

I'd be happy if split systems weren't so common as I would rather trade off so called sophistication for simply reliability.

@dogfoot welcome.

Best say what you have, is it a 1.6 or 2.0 TDI rather than a TSI?

I'll bet it has 2 thermostats  and the electrical one has failed.
