My Honda Bobber.

Featured Replies

Jamie, I like that but it's missing the details. Did you build it yourself and what did it start off as?

Donor bike was a stock 1996 Honda VT600 Shadow, very reliable and easy to modify.

Did some of the work, but outsourced the powdercoating and paint work to a couple of brothers up north who customise bikes, they also provided the rear fender and lowered the bike and bolted it all back together, so they did most!

Thats proper cool!

That looks really nice mate

Cheers guys, it's a beaut to ride (I lie, it's uncomfortable! Lol) but fun to ride for sure.

Always gets looks, thumbs ups and attention whenever it's parked.

I like that a lot, it looks 'stealth'

with those exhausts though I bet it doesn't sound that way!

part bobber, part rat?

It's not the quietest, but then again it's not as loud as a Harley with short exhausts on, so a good compromise.

Very nice

I want to do something like this, I quite like the thought of fat tyre scrambler type, like below. Needs to be a twin, ideally a Honda CX but these are going for stupid money but could do similar with a BMW boxer.

CWARD, the cafe tracker style bikes are really nice, but have to be done well to look good. Theres loads out there that have been half done backyard jobs that don't really hit the mark!

Yeah, I keep seeing them come up on eBay asking for stupid money on their shonkey creations that would have been better left alone.

I just need a cheap donor bike, preferably a twin, a bit of space in the garage and with lots nights and countless cups of tea and I'll be a happy chappy

I've seen a few based on Boxer BMW's and they look sweet!

Agreed!

A boxer or a vtwin seem to go well.

Not into the parallel twin ones personally.

Trouble is that's made the prices of R65's and R80's go through the roof!

Got a nice R45 over here ;). Only the heads are different from the 65 apparently.

Too clean n original to butcher really though. Only got a few k on it.

I like the old Boxer BMW's too but again silly money for something that is basically scrap without a lot of work. A few years ago you would have paid a couple of hundred at the most, now you won't get anything for less than a grand. I also like the Honda C90 scene. Some fantastic looking bikes that weigh next to nothing but again silly money for a scrap bike.

I'm trying to pick up a cheap scooter fro my wife who fancies giving it a go in the summer. I went to look at one last night who the owner described as pristine on a 60 plate. Arrived to find the frame and forks pitted with corrosion. It had no service history as he had maintained it all himself yet the air filter was black and the oil wasn't even on the dipstick, sticking my finger in the engine casing produced sludge. Still he wanted top money for it and called me a time waster yet it was me that had travelled 40 mins to see it, another 20 looking over it and then the trip back again.

Something like that you should just restore.

Totally agree, if the R45 is really good then restoration is the way to go :)

Doesnt even need restoring.

Bit of polish on the tank maybe. But its pretty much as it came out the factory tbh.

Cant remember the mileage exactly, but its very little.

Ill get some pics up some time if you're interested (:

I may have a Honda CX by the end of the week :) let the building commence.

Brill. Very iconic bike now it seems.

My dads a proper whizz on those. Been after one for years too. Had one new back in the day n wished he never sold it. Of course.

His mates still riding about on one. Loves it.

I had a 2001 CX500 that I used as a commuter bike, liked to drink oil but other than that it was faultless. I sold it when I got a Ducati 900SS and wished I'd kept it.

The bike I've seen is CX650 C on a 2002. It looks like it has been restored from the pictures but with a colour scheme picked by Stevie Wonder. My thoughts for a scrambler style bike will create a few problems as I've no chance of getting a semi knobbly tyre to fit a 15 inch rear so will need new wheels which is a shame as they are in really good condition. I'm not sure on the rake either so may need to change the forks also. The tank is not ideal either and would prefer something a more pear shaped.

Fingers crossed I'll have the bike this week so will get some pics up in a new thread and the build will then commence.
