BMW 330 or 335d?

Featured Replies

Hi all

If you were considering a BMW touring with XDrive (2014 on) and the short list was the 330d or 335d which would you chose and why?

Not 100% sure on which I would chose, obviously there is a marginal 0-60 improvement on the 335d with slightly poorer mpg but is that about it?

If it was me I'd choose 335. Why? It's got an extra 5.

Ben,

Seem to recall another member raised such a question. Think he might have ended up with a Mazda 3. However, my memory may have failed me .

Have a look at this thread.

^^^ Thanks for the pointer, I shall start reading :) looking through I recall replying but it was in answer to the OP's initial question not the real difference between the 330& 335though.

335d is xdrive only but allegedly they need the dynamic suspension package or can wallow.

I only drove a 330d (rwd) and it was brutally fast (maniacal laughing fast). Got the impression that the 335d was significantly more brutal than that.

Mate of mine has a 330d xd and loves it. However he says it's still shoite in the snow and bad weather so I would possibly even advise you to save some pennies and get the 330d rwd and just stay at home when it snows.

Option packs are important and I think the 335d comes with quite a bit more as standard, also the options were a bit cheaper with the 335d so they tend to come with more.

There were no used ones around at all when I looked in March but there are quite a few around now for some reason. Don't know if it's lease turnover time.

8 speed auto is sublime. Much better than the same box in a Jag XF.

Could be the diesel power delivery that creates this illusion but there's nothing really brutal or maniac in the acceleration of either the 330d or 335d, is it? Their 40-60-120 sprints are matched by cars will far less hp, think stage 2 fabia vRS 1.4 TSI or a 230ps Golf GTI, Focus ST etc. which feel like fast cars but nothing extraordinary.

+the rwd maybe. You get the feel of being pushed round corners rather than pulled.

I drove an older E46 330d once upon a time and that felt nothing special at all.
