On the 1.2 tsi engine the oil filter is inverted and positioned directly above the alternator. My roomster is having its last service before it comes out of warranty. I am planning to do the oil changes in the future and wonder if once the sump has been drained does the oil filter retain any oil. Its removal presents a problem as any residual oil will empty out over the alternator, or does it?

Put a rag under the filter prior to removal to catch any oil spillage but make sure you remove it afterwards.
