How is warranty affected by non-Skoda servicing?

Featured Replies

I have a 190 dsg ordered and due to collect it after Xmas. I was thinking about the servicing of it and just wondered if anyone knows how the service affects the engine warranty if the service is not carried out by skoda main dealer but still a member of Volkswagen group?

My nearest skoda dealer, who I have bought off, is 38 miles away. However, a local garage, one mile away, has both the Audi and Volkswagen dealership and servicing. Surely a standard service with Volkswagen would be honored by Skoda?

I might plan to have a standard service carried out locally but main work and big services carried out with skoda.

Where would I stand doing this?

Just a thought...

Warranty claims would still be ok as long as the garage carrying out the service is VAT registered.

Goodwill claims post warranty expiry may be more difficult if non dealer servicing has been used.

In theory you can have your car serviced at any dealer provided they use genuine parts and carry out the service to manufacturer specifications without affecting your warranty.

I suspect Skoda could if they felt so inclined reject any warranty as outside of the official dealer network they could say no one else has the latest hardware/software and service campaigns/bulletins so effectively your vehicle wouldn't then be serviced to the latest specification and possibly have an adverse effect on any warranty claim.

If it was me I wouldn't risk it - use a Skoda dealer then there's no question whatsoever should you need to make a warranty claim, it could cost you dearly otherwise, and after ordering a new car is it a risk worth taking?.

Although VWG own VW/Skoda/Audi etc they are run as separate businesses - don't chance it.

Call Skoda customer services and ask the question. ..
