Sold the Monte Carlo as it wasn't quite me.

So ended up buying a minter of a Type R GT FN2

I actually rather love it. I know it got a bit of a doing on topgear by jeremy clarkson when it first came out

But in my opinion what a good chassis and handling it has. Proper sticks to the road. Possibly more so than any car i have previously owned. Drives lovely.

And though not overly quick it does bring you a smile everytime you drive it. That vtec engine hitting high rpm's is just music to my ears.

But does have cruise control. Backwards or what

Made a couple of miniscule changes

My car never came with the badge kit (£400 when new from Honda)

So i have fitted exact reproduction badges (£40) in as close to oem positions as i could get

Happy with them

Also installed an aux lead into the back of the headunit so were in the 21st century

Well if you watch the top gear episode with jeremy clarkson comparing it to the older ep3 it gets a slating as it has a torsion bar rear beam instead of the older independant suspension that the ep3 had

But in the real world i find it fantastic and it sticks to the road like glue. From 09 onwards i believe they get an LSD as standard too (mines is an 08)

And from research i have heard with a mugen fast road setup and eibach springs they can out handle the ep3 even with the rear torsion bar.

I will probably keep it pretty much stock. Im thinking about going back to the standard airbox as to get the most from an induction kit you need a hondata ecu and a remap

Very nice. Only had one quick passenger trip out in one and it's really well setup, as you say. Feels solid and well put together.

 

May seem overly firm on damping for some though? Depends on your preference and the roads it gets used on I guess :thumbup:

It certainly bops about a fair bit. Feels like a little go-kart

I do love an engine with a lift cam. Reminds me of my old toyota corolla tsport. Very under-rated.

You have to love them from what they are. And i am fully aware it isnt going to set the world on fire speed wise but when your driving it you can't help but smile and behind the wheel when they are screaming at you plus 8k rpm they do feel like the fastest cars on the planet.

Which i know it isn't but it is just good fun

Nothing wrong with a torsion bar. The megane and close have them and they'll out handle most things on the road.

When I was looking for one of these I came across the lsd option. I believe it was the year the championship white edition came out.

What's traction like without one, I read they spin up the inside wheel quite happily

I haven't owned it for too long and the weather has been pants of late. It can stick the power down easily bone dry but with the colder weather and used summer tyres it struggles if you give it WOT

Only really in 1st though if you hit vtec (which your not doing too often to be fair)

It only has 198bhp and a pitifull amount of torque so im not too bothered about the lsd. I have actually only had one car with lsd and i couldnt handle it ????

So my mate reversed into my car

That was a month ago. Just received my car back from his insurers and im over the moon.

Entire new front end. Inc headlights / grille / bonnet / bumper. They have even resprayed the original wings. So now i have not one single stone chip. The job they have done is second to none. Looks like it has actually just rolled off the production line.

Cleanest fn2 out there ? :/

Well i actually fitted a replica one when i first got the car.

But the grille is new along with the red honda badge (old one was stone chipped) but as for the type r badge i dont know if they refitted my old one or if they purchased a new one. Would really need to look at the back of the grille to double check

what it lacks in straight line speed it more than makes up for it in the twisties. Seriously good fun

 

mpg is horrendous but vtec just makes you smile. Im 25-30mpg but its all about smiles per gallon. Also they are cheao to buy 5k will get nice one. Or maybe 7k for a champ white one with lsd. Think 59 plates onwards all got an lsd.

Has yours been modified at all. I've read that a set of Spring and proper alignment can make these amazing in the Twisties. 

 

My commute is most motorway and a roads so i should hope my mpg is better than that lol. 

 

I might have to take on out for a test drive then and see what there like.

Its called the Mugen fast road setup

 

mine is bone stock, took the airfilter off as you ideally need a remap as it has flat spots with it

 

they are more than capable in standard form. Mororway runs you'll see 35mpg plus! Tricky to get 1st to 2nd but once you know how your sorted. Took me a wee while but i've mastered it now
