Dimming headlight lights on dash

Featured Replies

Both valid comments.

I still maintain though, that if people are SOOOOO concerned about consumption in their vehicles, to the point they would argue against better visibility to other idiot drivers out there, then they shouldn't be driving at all.

Well, I would argue that if you think that 5w glowworms actually enhance the visibility of your vehicle front under any circumstances other than unlit road at night, then you shouldn't be driving!

Ken. It's been proven that lights on a vehicle make it easier to be spotted by other road users.

Why would that suggest I've said something silly?

Why would motorbikes have been mandated for permanent lights on in Australia, for the sake of increased visibility to other people.

I guess you either didn't read or didn't understand my last beyond "I don't think that lights make a vehicle more visible"?

BTW I don't think that even dipped headlights make most vehicles more visible in bright sunlight.

Really not trying to be a d!ck here, but I've clearly misunderstood your replies.

I read your reply about glowworms, and understood you to mean that I shouldn't be driving, because I believe that headlights-on makes your car more visible, under any driving condition.... whereas you clearly think the opposite.

Please correct me if I'm wrong in my interpretation.....

Happy to disagree happily with you though.....

I regularly drive along a single track avenue of trees with passing places. Even in good daylight cars with DRLs are much more noticeable and in the distance you also know if car coming towards you.

On the same sort of issue I have problems with the fashion for cyclists wearing grey and black, on this road it is hard to see them and prepare to pass them safely. As a cyclist myself I know how important this is! Hi-viz is not necessary but if you wear red, blue or bright green you stand out from from the background.

Ah, that comment about glowworms was a result of the number of people who seem to believe that any lights, even if they're less bright than ambient lighting levels, make you more visible.

That's the exception; when I find myself in those conditions I select headlights, but this means that I'm thinking about the conditions, and people with DRLs may not be (just plain aren't?) doing so.
