Key Synchronising

Featured Replies

Hi can anyone advise how to synchronise my key after swapping the battery in the key fob? I have followed the instructions on page 246 of the manual but to no effect. The key will start the car but doesn't open or close the doors when I press the key buttons. My spare key works fine.

Remove the drivers door lock cap and lock then unlock the car with that key, it should re sync it, if not then it's a trip to the dealers.

Hi thanks for the advice. I have tried this but no joy. It looks like a trip to the dealers.

Are you sure the battery is correctly located & the replacement was ok ?

Did you try to put back the old battery to see if it works again.

The remote locking requires the battery for the transmitter to lock/unlock the car.

The immobilizer tag in the key is usually passive (I'm not 100% sure about the VW system but it is definately the case for some other OEMs) so will work without the battery in teh keyfob.

Hi I spoke to the dealers who advised putting the old battery back in to see if it worked with that.after trying this the key fob is now totally unresponsive with the LEDs not flashing at all (even with the new battery) back in! So any idea's? I am booked into the dealers for the 10th of Nov , the car is under 3 yrs old with 40k miles. Will this be covered under warranty if the fob is non repairable

Did you sort this out? I just changed my battery, it worked, the ignition still said battery low and the upshot is that I swapped the batteries to check and with the CR2025 imprint facing upwards the LED doesn't work with either battery. Luckily I have a new unused key. I will try another CR2025 battery.

Hi I am sorted now , I tried 3 new batteries all form different sources, no joy so took it into the dealers.they had it a day and returned it working okay! They said they had just swapped the battery and charged me £3.80! As this included them washing and vaccing the car I was happy, but I think they must have reset something, as as a qualified electronics engineer , l know that my batteries were okay and In the right way, this was confirmed by colleagues and the key repair man at my local timpsons care key repair centre.

This normally works when you try to re-sync keys that have lost their function.

They may have fitted a battery and tried the above (which takes 2 mins) so they decided not to bother charging you a great deal.

Many thanks for this tip.  After one of my key fobs failed to lock/unlock the car I phoned my local main dealer and explained the problem.  They were unable to suggest that manual unlocking/locking might resolve the issue.

I have to admit that had I found and read the relevant section of the manual I wouldn't have had the problem either, but I'm sure I haven't had to resync things after replacing a key fob battery in the past.

Anyway, thanks again for saving me more stress and expense.  Much appreciated - and a lesson learned.

Took it to Hortons today and the parts dept sorted it in a few minutes for a very reasonable cost. Moral of the story, buy decent batteries and read the manual... otherwise wait until you are passing your dealership.
