Exhaust holder? and engine hose help needed

Featured Replies

I have trouble with my exhaust, you can see that the bit there broke and now the silencer is just hanging (secured somewhat with wire at the moment). Where can I get a new one of those pieces (the arm that the red arrow is pointing at). And yes, I do intend on getting a new silencer. Got in a big fight at home over it at as well, I want to get an economic "univeral"  silencer of the same/similar dimensions, treat it against rust, then get a welder friend of mine to attach it (family wants me to get a complete new rear assembly which is pretty expensive, especially for a student like me). Also a part of my catalytic converter broke and it rattles now, so I wonder if a universal cat is okay to have (again, would surface treat it against rust) or should I get an OEM which costs literally 9-10 times as much as a brand new universal unit? I can't afford the latter.

And my secondary problem I noticed on accident (shoulda noticed it earlier judging by the "WHOOOSH" sound I get when starting the car)

The hose which the red arrow points at has a hole in it, now I don't know what this hose does but I do imagine it is better to have a hose that doesn't have a hole in it. I don't know what that hose is called, so I don't know what to look for, if somebody could help me get an economical replacement (and an explanation on it) I'd be mighty obliged.

That bit should be attached to your silencer, it's not a separate part.  Get a new silencer and the hanger will come welded to it.

Ah, i see, but the universal silencer I've seen don't come with it welded on. Is it possible to get it separately to weld on the silencer?

Firstly, the red bit you are pointing at won't be available as a separate item, it's welded to the rear box. Best thing to do would be to contact your local factors, or try the online ones, like ECP or GSF. Put your reg number in and see what they offer. From the looks of it, you have a standard back box, so I would expect to pay about £30-£40 for a new one. As for the cat, universal ones are a waste of time usually, you need to get underneath to measure the overall length, plus the internal and external pipe sizes. Again, see what the local factors say with regards to the cat, they will be massively cheaper than a dealer part. Besides, is it definitely the cat and not just a loose heat shield?

As for the pipe, if it's the convoluted one in your hand, then you could probably repair it temporarily with some tape, otherwise find someone breaking one, or price it up with the dealer.

As others, that bracket is part of the back box, and not available separately.

If the car's a diesel, the back box doesn't do much to quieten the exhaust anyway, so you could look at a plain pipe to replace the silencer if you can find someone who can build exhausts.

I honestly don't know, I just go from what my father and brothers told me... and to be honest, I don't trust them anymore. Regarding the pipe, yes, it is the convoluted one (not the big plastic one). Again, what does it do and is it available as a separate part? I am afraid of taping it up, because it might suck in the tape and then get clogged.

I would go to a Skoda dealer but there's none in my area. I mean, I bought my car used (and the previous owner got it from a toyota dealer).

What engine/year is this? The engine bay pic is confusing me quite a bit...

Where does the convoluted pipe run from/to? It looks like it connects to a heat shield on the manifold from the picture, angle makes it awkward to see though. If it is, then it will just be for diverting warm air back into the engine to speed up the warm up cycle. It won't be under any major pressure, so some gaffa tape would do as a temporary stop gap, send me your chassis number by PM and I will see if I can get you a part number

The convoluted hose is under the pipe that the red arrow is pointing at. It's a 2001 1U , the engine code should be AXP or BCA , it's the 1.4L 16 valve petrol engine.

I think it is the one in the picture, in which case the part number is 049 129 627 T

That looks about right, where can I order it ? Ebay?

Thanks for your help. And last thing, what does it do? Is it the air intake or something?

EDIT: are there any generic/universal versions, since they sorta want over 100 USD for that one piece of hose. I mean, that's mildly ridicilous. I paid like 1100 for the entire car.

No problem. It is just an air intake hose. Best bet would be to try that part number in google, ebay etc and see what comes up. Other option is to look for cars being broken and try second hand. Don't think it's too important, doesn't look like a pressure hose, rather just an intake type hose.

Could I just use an radiator hose? or car heater hose? Assuming the diameter is correct, since those can be gotten at sane prices.

Do you not have any other places which stock compatible exhausts without going to Skoda?  It should not cost too much

There's "universal" ones but then I'd have to make it myself (weld and cut) which to be honest isn't a problem for me. I'd just need to get an arm like that to weld onto the silencer itself.

But yeah, maybe I'll go with a stock new silencer assembly (without the cat of course), I talked to my brother and he has like 35-40%  discount on the parts due to his work. So if I can get a factory new silencer for cheap through that route I will do it. Though the stock exhausts I've seen don't have twin tips, which is a slight damper on the looks, but then again the silencer isn't to be seen when mounted corrrectly.

But thanks for the help.

Here you can buy 'pattern' parts - i.e. exhaust parts which are made for the job but are cheaper than OE, the design and fitting should be the same as OE but obviously quality may not be as good
