Windscreen mist

Featured Replies

Is it me or is the fabia (1.2TSI Estate) useless at clearing a misted windscreen? Worst car I've ever owned for this.

Other than that, love it

Mk 2 Octavia is the same, only car I have ever had that lets you 200 yards down the road then completely mists up, proper pain in but.

You are not wrong :) There have been threads about this in the past, as a result of recommendations in those I purchased some dehumidifying bags, they have gone some way to resolving the problem and I would recommend.

I have the Fabia hatch 1.2 sel petrol April 2015. I was having similar problems when I got the car and read several threads from other owners with possible fixes. Cleaning the glass with a good car glass cleaner the sort that drys to a white powder. I bought a bag of moisture absorbing crystals that I keep on the dash board. I make sure all the windscreen draining vents are clear as I believe water can get into the fresh air filter and drip onto the floor if they get blocked. Check the incoming air is not switched to recirculate. My car came with removable loose floor mats so I got a set of front rubber ones last winter they are really good in keeping the floor dry. I had a Mk1 estate and had to have all the internal door seals redone twice over a 10 year period check you don't have any dampness in the rear foot wells just incase they never resolved the problem when they made the Mk111. Other owners may have found better remedies but you are not alone with misty windows :) Joe

Asda £1 Moisture Traps.  1 in the car and 1 in the boot.

Use the AC almost always, keep the cars interior as dry as possible.

Because the Skoda De-mister and air circulation is rather rubbish the mist now will be frozen insides to the glass over the next months on some days depending on location location location.

Use the AC as Offski says. Take the moisture out of the interior.

Use it on hot when you demist also.

I've got Auto climate control and not had a problem up to now,but as it gets colder I stand to be corrected.

I'm fairly certain that with the standard A/C system (not climate control) the A/C is always on when in demist position. Mine makes funny noises when the A/C is on (people on here have suggested that there is a known issue with the compressors- I need to take it to the garage to get it sorted!) and it makes those noises regardless of the light on the A/C button when it's in demist. I think it also blows cooled air in when the engine hasn't warmed up yet, but I'm not 100% sure.

My 1.2 110 SE L HATCH has now been through all four seasons and it's one of the best demisting cars I've had.....as good as my previous Volvo. Climate Control is on all the time, (isn't that what it's for?), on Auto, and hence the car is always dry inside. Mirror defrost/demist isn't as rapid as the Volvo but still very acceptable.

Like RickW and alltorque I have never had the misting problem and I am now on my third Fabia all have had climate control which I leave on all the time

I thought mine clears pretty fast.. my last 2 cars were 10 year gold golfs though... My old R32 was terrible would take minutes to clear the screen, the fabia takes a few seconds.

My a/c is always on (default setting when car turned on), it always feel instantly humid on the rare occasions ive turned it off, probably just me imagining it

Ours clears within seconds of turning on the ignition.

I have to admit that until I studied climate control properly and had some help from a friend I didn't understand how it all worked properly.

My last car,a Mazda 6,had it but always misted up due to me not using it correctly.

Now I have the Fabia I have learned to always leave CC on and I've not had any problems.

I think it should be something that's explained by the dealer when picking up a new car that has CC,in my opinion, as many people don't know how to take full advantage of it.

As VC10 says, with the manual air conditioning (I have that on my new SE) the AC with Air Recirculation comes on automatically when you select 'Demist' position. It works well and I've not yet had any problems with misting up. I did however need to clean my screen thoroughly on the inside with Autoglym cream glass cleaner to remove goodness knows what that was causing some initial misting. Once cleaned, and using the demist position with the ac/recirc, it's absolutely fine. In addition, there is also the option of you and your passengers 'not breathing' as you drive, this seems to fix the problem also...for a short while!!
