Hi everyone, I have decided that my next Motability car is going to be a Supurb SEL 220 with a few options. The problem is I am not sure if these options are a good idea or not so was wondering if any of you guys could help me out, I have pretty much decided that I will get Kessy but I am not sure of the pros and cons of this I have pretty much decided that I should get the heated washer nozzles but I however I'm not sure if the traffic sign recognition system is a good idea or not, any suggestions would be gratefully accepted, I was going to add the rear view camera however I am hoping this will become standard on the new facelift model. Any help or suggestions would be gratefully received, I am not due to place my order until September but I sat in the car at the dealership yesterday and I pretty much decided there and then I wanted one I have decided to go for the half leather half alcantara option in beige, and I think I will go for the black exterior.

Hi, and welcome to the forum. I have the same car as you are planning (also a Motability lease) and it's certainly ticking almost all of the boxes for us. The 220 is a great engine, and you're right to add a few options on top that might help you during the lease. Don't go too mad however, as you obviously don't get a return on your investment (except use of the extras) at the end of the lease.

Depending on your health conditions, of course, I personally would say KESSY is a bit of a waste. It basically just means you can walk up to the car and unlock or lock it with a tap of the door handle instead of a tap on the fob. Is it really worth that much money that could be spent on something more useful to you or even just saved?

Someone like Gizmo would be the best to answer about options, but iirc (do check!) if you buy the traffic sign recognition for circa £80 you then get the front facing camera which can be coded with VCDS (the Skoda 'computer') to also enable things like high beam assist (a several hundred pound option) without you having to pay for it. Several owners on here have the VCDS system, so it's something to bear in mind. Things like the rear camera can be handy, but I manage perfectly without it. It's a nice to have, not a must have. If anything I'd say spend the money on front sensors instead (which are probably rather cheaper) and at least have all round assistance rather than just a camera out the back where you have sensors already anyway. The SE-L spec doesn't come with front sensors as standard, so it's something to bear in mind. Again I manage perfectly well without them but if you're the type to wonder about buying a rear camera I imagine front sensors may be of assistance (the bonnet is long and the seating position fairly low).

I also went with the half Alcantara half leather, and think we made the right choice. They're very comfy, grippy and don't suffer the temperature extremes of leather (especially cheap front-facing-only leather faced seats like you'll find on Skoda). YMMV so do test out both and see what you feel.  If you're not ordering until September 2017 I'd just hang fire as the spec can and will change again by then, as you say.

Welcome,

The pros of KESSY are that you just need the keys ‘on you’ to open, lock and start the car, although it’s a nice thing to have I doubt I would pay for it (we chose not to on SWMBO’s L&K Yeti)

Con’s... well they are not as secure according to many news articles.

TSR is a good choice as rainmaker below points out

Not sure how practical beige alcantara will be though (and I have beige ventilated leather)

Spot on

I had full KESSY on my Golf GTI a couple of years ago. I was converted to it and thought it was great. I traded that for a Passat that only had "half-KESSY", that is to say it had a stop/start button for the engine, but the key was needed for locking and unlocking the doors. After a while, I got used to it and it didn't really bother me. Now I'm back to full KESSY with my L&K Superb, but I don't think I would have paid any extra for it if it was not standard. I'm having to re-train myself not to use the key to lock and unlock it.

Hi all thanks for the help I never gave the security issues around Kessy a thought I know it probably is okay but there is a doubt now , I might save the money and spend £80 on the shell with the paddles, it is SWMBO who is driving the car because I hav lost my sight now her concern is the reverse sensors which it has got already, we have gone from a C-Max with sensors to a Volvo without them and she is not happy about it plus I have took the executive decision to go for petrol our last cars have been diesel and it will be nice to have some quiet instead of the constant noise from the engine I guess it doesn't help the engines in both the C-Max and Volvo were the same Ford/PSA units which is shockingly bad plus she likes the idea of an extra 100bhp, I'm wondering how to get speed camera alerts on it because I think she might need them.

Hello and Welcome.

I'm also a Motability man and I picked up my SE-L 220 DSG on Friday and it's GREAT!

I went for the the front sensors as Rainmaker mentioned and I wouldn't be without them.

It's quite a long bonnet and you do sit quite low so I really think they are a top option.

I went for the full leather and although some are saying it's not  all that nice, I don't mind it at all.

We'll see how it wears in the next few months.

You are quite right to say that the spec will change by the time you are ready to order your car, so who knows what the options will be by then.
