Featured Replies

Daughter needs to get newish car , i have advised to get a Fabia , Not VRS , she has not got enoughcash for one of those ( DAD PAYING ) WHAT WOULD BE YOUR RECOMENDATIONS FOR A NEARLY NEW PETROL fABIA AND IN WHAT TRIM . Must have ABS, AIRCON , Airbags . Whats more reliable the 8V OR 16v 1.2 OR 1.4 . Any recomendations please

2 litre :D

We have a 1.2 silverline estate. Nice little engine, capable of holding it's own, a little slow on acceloration ( compared to my vRS,) but doesn't disgrace it's self. Quite nippy Cheap to run and only group 2 insurance. New one's now come with air con as standard with ABS..........Try one "You may be suprised"...........:D

1.2 ambiante with 64 bhp cracking little car, all the toys(newer models) and cheap

The 1.2 12 volt engine must be the engine of choice. :)

Now if Richard Mr "12 Volt" Fabia man had seen this, he'd have known exactly what I was referring to! ;):D:rofl:

I had a 1.2 12v estate on a 55 plate yesterday as a courtesy car - quite a nice little engine, a tad slow on acceleration but suprisingly torquey low down.

Fairly economical, was averaging 40mpg over the day I had it (mostly around town) but things went downhill on the country lanes - 28mpg!!!

Oh man...not again...

I'm gonna get him a "12 volt" badge for his car soon. :D

Any car made after July 1 2004 (I think) should have ABS fitted as another EU rule came into effect. This doesn't affect specialist sports car manufacturers with low outputs but Skoda will certainly come under it.

The only thing I would suggest is avoid the 6 valve 1.2 engine with air con as it will probably put too much strain on the engine going uphill - the 12valve 1.2 is far better - I had one for 10 days as a Skoda loan car and it was good if a little gutless at times.

deleted - sorry wrong thread

Must it be petrol?, why not a 1.4 tdi?

Having driven both the 1.2 12V and the 1.4 MPI I'd go for the 1.2 12V any day. It just seems to pull a lot nicer.

Noise levels were good, due to having 'normal' tyres etc rather than low-profile ones. Suspension is very forgiving, and for the type of car it is meant to be it handles well.

Get a high enough level trim and you'll get the toys you're after :)

As for petrol vs diesel - get a diesel if you travel a reasonable distance on most trips (10 miles absolute minimum IMHO), otherwise get a petrol. A diesel is excellent for motorway cruising and longer distance, but a petrol is more suited to short distance driving, warms up a lot quicker (esp the 1.2) and will do very similar fuel economy figures in reality - at those distances - as it warms up a lot quicker. IIRC it was 50k miles before a diesel breaks even  My SWMBO bought a different car but it's a petrol 1.1 for this reason (10 miles to her work)

Petrol . is the best option i think as my daughter only does 6K miles a year at most . and that is 90% town . Main problem is persuading her to get a Skoda .She wants a POLO . Same car but more money for less kit . Think i could get the Skoda and Debadge , thin stick on some Polo ones , she would be none the wiser . More intersted in the colour .
