In my previous MKII vRS the 12v socket never powered off when locking the car. Is this still the same in the MKIII?

Yep. Both sockets - front console and inside boot - stay live.

 

 

 

(It's something that has to be dealt with when hardwiring a dashcam.)

Damn it! That's a pain, can it be coded to turn off? Used to the 5 min shut off with the beemer?

Are there any sockets near the front tucked out of view like BMW has one under the glove box?

A dash cam but just wanted a simple plug and play you can just leave plugged in rather than having to wire things in.

Some people like to charge up phone batteries when the keys are not in the car. Some people also flatten car batteries with portable fridges. :notme:

Half an hour spent hardwiring is worth it to get rid of the mess of trailing wires all over the dash. IMHO.

On the Golf the power socket fuse has 2 positions, one is to power the sockets permanently and the other is power with ignition on only.  The fuse just has to be moved into the UP or Down position. It must be worth checking if the socket fuse on the Octy will work in the same way.

 

If it does it is visually obvious as the fuse holder is 1 1/2 fuses deep - if that makes sense - so the fuse will either sit in line with all the others or half way between the 2 rows.

BlackVue sell a BlackMagic box which provides this functionality..... I've got one, but not wired it up yet.  Leaving my dash cam plugged in for a week when the car wasn't being driven gave me a "warning low battery" on the dash one morning  :dull:

Not in UK Skodas, if any. It is on the Golf fusebox. It is very easy to rig up a switched socket from the fusebox, there are several threads about.

Since I presume you have to get at the fusebox for that - not easy the first time (!) - you might as well hardwire in.

It's on the SEAT cars, have skoda really been that tight?

If true just having the extra part probably costs more than using the same as everyone else.
