Service coming up and emissions software change

Featured Replies

Car is 2.0 cr diesel 61 plate and covered around 53k miles.

My questions are:

1. Is the cam belt / water pump due a change (time rather than distance)?

2. If it is due a change, is it simpler to do than my old (bullet proof) 1.9 pd Superb? I.E. Is it okay for my local (trusted) garage to do? Due to the complexity of the cambelt tensioning I only ever got the cambelt done at a Skoda dealer. Luckily the one I use in Exeter is very good!

3. Has anybody had the software changed because of the VW emissions lie! and does it change the characteristics of the performance in anyway? The letter from Skoda says it doesn't but obviously car manufacturers lie!

Thanks very much for any replies.

Skoda suggest every five years for a '61 plate CR TDi in the UK, they don't have time limits for the same engine in other countries - instead something like 210,000km if I remember correctly. Water pump doesn't have a replacement schedule, it's often done at the same time as the cambelt as the cambelt needs removing to replace it. You might also consider replacing the aux belt as that needs to come off meaning it's a parts only charge of ~£15-£20.

Any good garage should be able to do it, you also might find your Skoda dealer will price match quotes for the same work with genuine parts.

I've just had the cambelt, water pump and aux belt as my '61 plate had it's fifth birthday, my local Skoda dealer were happy to price match.

As for the software, there are plenty of threads where people have had it done. Reviews vary from nothings changed to it's down on torque and noisy. Personally, I'm avoiding the update as I expect it'll shorten the life of emission control components such as the EGR or DPF. I don't have any facts to back that claim up so it's your call.

Just to confirm what langers2k's said.

I just had my timing belt kit (with tensioners and so on), water pump and aux belt replaced at Skoda for £399 which was price matched from a local independent.

All they needed was the email from the other place confirming genuine parts would be used and the price and were happy to oblige.

And yes it's 5 years according to Skoda UK, although the service book does not actually state a time.
