Dump Valve

Featured Replies

Hi All,

This is my first time out since joining Briskoda. I'm wondering if anyone knows the answer to this. I fitted a dump valve purchased from Halfords on to my vRS which seems to work ok,

however, when cruising on the motorway the valve opens & vents continuously. Is this normal & has anybody else come across this?

 Paul J

Welcome to Briskoda Paul

Halfords sell Dump Valves? That's scary...

It could well be the wrong type, the vRS needs a "re-circulating" DV as opposed to the "Atmospheric" type as seen on Scoob's i believe.

Bailey or Forge are the usual recommendations for the Octy, do a search on the forum and all will be revealed ;)

Or...look here...

Hi Paul, and welcome!

Out of interest, why did you replace the standard DV? As Geoff says, the odds are that you have bought an unsuitable DV which will be having a detrimental effect on your car's performance.

You can find a detailed explanation about DVs in the following link:

Thanks Geoff & Denis. Looks like I'd better reinstate the OE kit!. I changed the DV purely for my aural pleasure, having also fitted a pipercross viper induction kit as well (so far!). The guy on the Ripspeed desk in Halfords sold me a Le Mans DV kit for Audi A3/4/Golf 1.8 Mk4, saying that the same kit was listed for the vRS. I'll be more careful next time!!

Well it's the same engine - as long as they meant the 1.8T. Maybe yours has failed prematurely. Is it adjustable at all? Having said all the above, Le Mans is not a name that has ever cropped up on here before AFAIK.

Take it back and see if you can get a refund :D
