Stop start system

Featured Replies

Hi has anyone fitted stop/start to a mk2 facelift?

Yes it's called a key.

very funny

I expect it's gonna be a huge job to do it correctly.

At the very least the starter, alternator and battery will need changing alongside the addition of a voltage regulator.

When I've been looking at wiring diagrams, there tends to be a separate section for stop/start cars suggesting there are major wiring changes. Probably linked to the use of the aforementioned voltage regulator to try and keep things running as the engine stops and starts.

This is a job even I wouldn't want to attempt ;)

Thanks for the advice, Think I am going to leave it.

I have stop/start on my Volvo & whilst it works very well in most situations i do find myself switching it off at times as its a pain in stop start traffic & i doubt i would miss it if it wasnt fitted, havent noticed much a difference to fuel economy with it turned on or off to be honest. I certainly wouldnt bother to retro fit it.

Backed up partly by what Mikey says re fuel economy, I think it more of a sales gimmick. I know it would get on my tits if it was on my car.

If I am stuck in traffic and not moving I turn the ignition off. Not difficult.

In stop - start traffic, not very practical Imo, and this has been backed up by trials too. Fifth gear I think.

I think one of the reasons its fitted to modern cars is to get the price of the tax down....my volvo is £30 a year.  :D i was paying £23 a month for my octavia vrs....

As previously mentioned its more for CO2 reduction in the regulated tests that get done on the car to determine its tax bracket. While some people like it some also dislike it including me. I have far too much mechanical sympathy to pull off the motorway after doing 70 mph and have the engine turn off on the sliproad when the light goes red, nor do I like giving it hell for leather out of a bad junction right after the engine has fired up.

It is useful on rare occasions though when you know you will be stood for a few minutes at a train crossing or something like that.
