2010 octavia columbus unit stuck in german. Skoda want £230!

Featured Replies

tried all the reboots etc now the dealership are saying i need a firmware update disc which is £230!!!!!. is there a way round this  IE   through internet or SD card update ..

If you're saying the dealers are going to sell you an update disk then I think that's very unlikely. They may be trying to sell you a maps disc which won't cure your current problem (unless you're very very lucky) or they may be quoting you for a few hours labour to try and reinstall the software on your unit. Both those options are expensive and may not help, if the hard drive or main board is faulty.

Didn't you ask this already?

Money would be better spent on someones time like rustynuts above who knows what he is doing with the units.

Sounds to me the dealer is blindly going into this at your expense

Exactly my thoughts too.

I might be missing something obvious but surely you can navigate through the menu's and change the language somewhere, or do it via VCDS?

No, the usual faults are the software on the unit is corrupt, the hard drive is failing, or the main board is failing. In any of these cases the language files are lost or the system defaults to the base language files (German) and doesn't allow the change to a different language.

Ah, makes sense I guess!

@furby16v - get the unit to Rustynuts in that case I'm sure he will sort you out!
