I hit my bumper can it be fixed?

Featured Replies

Well as may front parking sensors stopped working and I didn't find time to fix them. Today I hit my front bumper on parking lot and there's a dent. Not to big but A DENT!!! MY OCD is screaming!!! I am so ****ed off right now!  :@   :wall:

Question is can it be fixed some how. I know it's plastic? Anyone have some experience with this issue?

Or will I need to replace the whole bumper? (I that case I will smash it and make it look like accident and put it through insurance.)

Sorry I don't have picture cuz it's dark out side now, will post tomorrow.

I am just so frustrated now. I hate this!  :'(

1) Pretty sure that would count as insurance fraud and invalidate it if they ever found out

2) Surely this was an accident? Could you not claim for it as it is?

Without pics it's pointless.

But unless you have badly damaged the bumper it's fixable.

Problem is my friend had accident with his car as garage door scratched the rear bumper. He parked little short. So insurance didn't want to pay for the damage.

Later he managed to convince them to pay it IDK how. Thing is I have connection in insurance company so..

Also problem is I was careless while parking cuz I was in rush and damn front sensors aren't working.

Its easy to fix, plastic fillers, plastic welding, can be done with a big soldering iron if the bumper is cracked. Try pushing it out from the other side. Warm the paint up with a hair dryer it may stop it from cracking and flaking.

At least it won't show up in UK insurance fraud figures and affect our premiums.

Ok sorry guys I just couldn't take a good picture so you can see it in my latest video.

It looks horrible the first day and I was obviously angry when writing the post. Not my fines moment.

I've seen videos where people have poured hot water onto bent plastic as it has caused the bumper to pop back out.....

Use a heat gun to heat up the bumper; needs to be warm, but be careful not to get it too close or too hot so that it damages the paint. Use a blunt object from behind the bumper to gently push the dent out - again, not too much force as it will stress the plastic / damage the paint.

It might be easier to remove the bumper to do this if access behind is not readily available.

Used this method a few times to reduce the appearance of dents to bumpers; might not be 100% but will lessen the unsightly dent.

Thanks for the tips guys I saw all of them on YouTube. But unfortunatly I live in apartment and don't have tools to remove the bumper or garague. I will see what price will the serivce offer to do that.

No point repairing the bumper. Would cost 2 much!  :p

Wait until you collect a few more dents, and then get them all fixed at once. Subsequent dents will not annoy you so much as the first, and it will work out much cheaper to repair all of them together.

OCD just costs unnecessary time and expense, and it's only a dent...

This is my view as well...

Sods law says as soon as you pay to get your cosmetic issues repaired someone will reverse into you or fling open their door in the supermarket car park.

With my 3 month old Octavia I parked too close to our caravan and when I next came to drive the car I noticed that the towing hitch (with a plastic cover on it) was pushing the rear bumper in a few inches.

When the swearing stopped I moved the car but the dent remained. Felt beneath and behind the bumper and at the centre right behind the dent was a gap which I was just able to get my hand in with scraped knuckles; pushed against the dent and it popped out with not so much as a mark or a crack on the paint - lucky or what. The swearing then recommenced at trying to remove hand from small gap.
